sorry if this has been asked many times, but im having a problem narrowing down the information i want.

I have a 2006 G35 Coupe, bose, navi,

Im trying to replace the stock HU and install a pioneer or kenwood, something with USB, MP3, hard disk, etc.

So far i know i need the double din kit

Can someone tell me where to order a good one?
Also do i need a control for the AC to work? where do i get one?
How will i retain my steering controls?

that comes with the AC controller and if you want to keep the dual you'll need to do some soldering.. if you want the steering wheel controls you need to order the PAC SWI-PS (amazon)..... i went with Pioneer HU...

 

which pioneer HU did you go with? do you have any more info about the soldering(so i can tell the shop)

 

That one linked on eBay has the dual on it already, so no soldering required. It comes with the AC controls, so that's covered too.

www.6ave.com is a great source for headunits. Right now, I think the best headunit out there is the Pioneer AVIC Z110BT. ($799 after $200 rebate).

You'll also need the ROEM-NIS2 to amplify the line outputs from the Z110BT if you're keeping the Bose amplifier.

So recommended shopping list:
Pioneer AVIC Z110BT (if you want navigation) or Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD if you don't want navigation now.
JDM DD Kit
PAC SWI-PS
Scosche universal double din trim ring

Metra 40-NI10 antenna adapter
PAC ROEM-NIS2

Yes, you need those regardless.
The PAC SWI-PS can be substituted for whatever headunit you get - like kenwood uses the SWI-JACK.

There really isnt' a headunit with satellite radio built in, they use adapters that connect to it.

Hard drives that let you store music on them.
Yes, but no. They existed, but if you want to store music in your car, buy an iPod. It's supported by every unit out there and is cheaper than the outdated units that had hard drives in them.

 

Wrathernaut is the man to go to... btw wrathernaut, when i spoke to you last time you said i needed the PAC SWI-PS... since i alredy got that do i need the PAC ROEM-NIS2?

 

The PAC ROEM-NIS2 is supposed to fix the signal from the headunit when using the Bose amp, I have never used one, but it's been reported to fix the signal so the Bose ain't too quiet. The G35 is not listed on its applications though, so I'm going off other people's recommendations here.

When I installed a Pioneer U310BT into a Bose-equipped 2005 coupe, it didn't need it, but reports from Z110BT and F900BT owners report far too quiet audio with the 70-7551 harness, and noise when using the 70-7550 harness.

The PAC SWI-PS is the device to convert the steering wheel signals to ones the headunit understands.

 

I guess the strange thing is, the ROEM-NIS2 is recommended when you have low pre-out voltage. The Z110BT and F90BT both have high pre-out voltages, while the U310BT is low at only 2.2 volts and I installed that into a 2005 Bose-equipped coupe, used the 70-7551 and no ROEM-NIS2, and it worked great.

Maybe I just have magic install powers?

 

for my sake i hope it's just the normal result of doing the installation without the ROEM-NIS2 bc i didn't order that and i really dont want to bc i've ordered so much crap already

 

I think what may have done it was that all the grounds were grounded to the body instead of just connecting them and letting it ground through wherever the stock ground went. Like the amp ground wire was grounded to the body as well as the radio, the radio's ground was grounded to the body in addition to where it connected with the new radio's harness.



Too bad I didn't take pictures of the installation to make see if it's as simple as that.

Anyway, I ordered my Pioneer Z110BT, Scosche ddtrb Double Din Trim Ring, Metra 70-7551 Harness, Metra 40-NI10 Antenna Adapter and PAC SWI-PS last night. I'll let you know how it goes in three months when I fly back to the states to visit.

EDIT: The black with white stripe is the AMP ground. I made sure that was grounded to the body, as was the regular black ground.
