I didn't realize this was possible. I just examined the stock center stack I pulled out and I guess I'll start taking it apart to see what pieces need to transfer. My first thought is that there isn't enough room back there but clearly it can be done.

wrathernaught. Thanks for the video tutorials, major help! I've pulled out the radio and noticed that the ribbon cable that goes from the head unit to the radio doesn't seem to secure. I'm wondering if the problem could be the ribbon cable instead of the entire head unit. Printed circuit boards don't typically go bad in a pretty stable environment like a car interior.

The cable's come out for some before, but it's usually the power supply in the radio itself that causes the failure of the circuit board.

I gave in and went to Infiniti to see about purchasing a replacement head. My VIN fell within the range covered under the service bulletin they put out a few years ago and so they only charged me $125 for the Head unit vs $800!!! So I get home put it in, install it in the dash and it doesn't work! So I removed it, checked all cables a second time, rewatched the video to make sure I didn't miss anything, reinstalled and and still nothing! Is it possible that the head unit the sold me is dead? What else could be wrong and how would I go about testing it?

If it was an '03 in that range of the not-a-tsb dealer thing, they shouldn't have charged you anything, and they should have done the install.

Unfortunately I've got 170k miles on my 2003 so they aren't obligated to service it for free and their labor rates are ridiculous. Any guesses as to what's wrong? You think the new head unit is bad too? Or did the power supply in the radio give up the ghost? Any east way to bench test this?

That's the service bulletin in question. If your VIN falls in that range, it gets repaired. If your dealer made you pay for that service and your VIN is in that range (JNKCV51E*3M000014 - 026621), go to the dealer and demand your money back for what they charged you, a fix that works, and a loaner vehicle until the repair is complete. If they do not do this right then, tell them you are calling Infiniti Consumer Affairs (800) 662-6200 and do so.

There is NOTHING in it that puts a mileage limit on the service campaign bulletin, and it specifically says it doesn't matter if it's the original owner or not.

I'd recommend printing out the bulletin and having it on hand if they start to say anything.

Can i replace just the HU & door speakers and leave the rest stock in a 03.5 w/bose??

My bose h/u recently went out on my 03 sedan leaving me with no defrost and hvac controls just in time for winter. So I will be replacing the stock unit with a pioneer dd h/u very soon.

After reading through this tread it looks like installing the PAC SWI is most difficult part. My question is if I do not install the PAC SWI with my aftermarket h/u will I lose the cruse control?

I am looking to just replace the bose h/u and keep the factory speakers, amps, and sub. So if I understand correctly people that have used the 70-7551 wiring harness have some volume issues. Is it just the sub that is quiet or all audio? The PAC ROEM-NIS2 seems to be a better alternative, am I correct on this?

Also, for those that have installed a pioneer dd hu, is the Scosche universal dd trim ring necessary, or will the hu fit the dash kit completely? I plan on getting the JDM trim kit and HVAC controls.

Revision notes, December 6th:

I am now recommending the Metra Axxess ASWC for almost all units. The ASWC does not require soldering resistors in, and in most cases requires no programming at all. This is a huge advantage for DIY installers.

As the voice recognition is a major selling point (as far as I'm concerned) for the Pioneer AVIC X920BT, Pioneer AVIC Z110BT and Pioneer AVIC Z120BT, and being able to map a steering wheel button to access that feature is also (as far as I'm concerned) important, I still recommend the PAC SWI-PS when using one of those units.

Extra thanks to Wrathernaut for all the work on this. My Bose died for the 4th time but I'm out of warranty and look at this as the motivation to finally get rid of it.

And if you're looking for a non-navigation unit, I cannot more highly recommend immediately purchasing a Pioneer AVIC 3200BT from sonicelectronix.com right now, I'm not sure why they're so deeply discounted at the moment, as it would be out of their usual release cycle (still about 4-5 months away) and usually only the z-series units get significant software updates for the same hardware, but they'll likely be sold out soon. They were only $320 yesterday, a fantastic deal.

4 replacements is the most I've heard somebody doing, but if it's waranteed, might as well let the dealership fix it for free... make Infiniti pay for the POS radios as many times as possible.
