Ah ok, doesn't look too bad.

Thats what I think I'm going to get custom done at a local shop here, kind of suits my purpose while leaving the backseats open to fold down. I can't get that one exactly b/c it does't have the proper mounting depth.

It's nothing a little MDF spacer can't take care of.

I didn't think of those type boxes and that mounting style. I would be curious on how they are secured, I sometimes take corners fast and having them fly around would be a definite concern.

I thought about that as well, and I might do that if the shop I'm going to talk to can't make it for cheap enough.

Well, I haven't figured that part out yet, but I'm going to probably use some sort of wall anchors or something to hold it maybe into the car chassis, I don't know yet, I'd have to do some more research on it.

Keep us updated, would like to see the finished product. Still plan on a full trunk build this fall, but would like to see how yours turns out.

So its been a while, but I finally completed this install. Here are the pictures of the box I went with. The mounting depth for the Type R is 7 5/8" but the box was only 6 5/8" so I had to custom make a spacer for it, I used two 1/2" rings for it (yes they're not professional, but I'll re-do it when I have more time). It sits about 1/2"-1" short of the trunk roof there in the corner so it has plenty of room.

Here it is for your viewing pleasure:

Yuck

Type r's are spl oriented subs. Those do not belong in small sealed.

Appreciated. And dully noted.

The proper sealed box volume for a type R is between 0.57-1.0 cubic feet.

That box is a sealed box with 1.15 cubic feet. More than enough airspace for the box.

That being said, I'm very happy with it. I know there are more appropriate boxes for a Type R, but I'm not looking to blow any windows out.

If that was the case, why didn't you get a small 8?

Not necessarily... You'll see people using them for SQ rather then SPL a lot more often... Don't get me wrong yes people do use them for SPL and they can handle burps but you dont see them that often and they do hit good numbers ... If i want SQ i would get type r's .. If i want SPL ill get fi btl 's , re xxx or mt , cerwin vega strokers, digital design, pioneer tsw5000spl , treo csw, fosgate t3 's or even solo x's and etc.

Have you ever modeled a type r in winisd? all types on peaks in various sealed boxes. They drop off heavy after 40hz, too.

Maybe you guys are forgetting the purpose of an sq sub?

Because it was the sub I had on hand, and money as a teacher doesn't come easy. Plus in my old car, the system was used to blow out windows (was two Type Rs with an amp each, etc). Why downsize when I can use what I already have, and know that I like how it sounds? Works for me.
