i got an 03 with bose...that sounds ok...my previous car has bose also a 03 grand prix gtp...and it sounded a little better.......

is it real hard to change to an aftermarket system or can u just replace the speakers? Does the g35 have a bose amp built in?

i hate mine. yes there is a amp in the car. its in the trunk

 

yea there doesnt seem to be much highs at all even with treble to +5

 

Just because its bose doesn't mean its good.. they have different quality bose and the used the cheapest crap they could find.. I upgraded all of mine to what it should of been..

 

I hated mine when I had it. For the untrained ear the stock bose is usually very good but I couldn't stand the muddy sound that only delivers mids.. also idk how it was in previous versions but in the 07 plus sedan, they put massive drivers in the doors for mids which just seemed to buzz and rattle instead of deliver the proper mid tone.

 

I plan to swap the whole thing out but where should I start...so here is a couple questions..

1) What should I replace first.....headunit, amp, speakers?

2)When I get an amp what do I want to look for...especially since the car has 8 speakers???

3) Anyone have any pics of there aftermarket cd player...

4) ummm?

You can replace just the speakers, but the speakers are the least offensive part of the system. The worst part is the stock bose amplifier because it has a dumb-as-rocks EQ built in that destroys any semblance of good audio, and has about as much power output as an iPod. The headunit is built by clarion, and has such a high failure rate that it might as well be made out of dry bread. The headunit also outputs a differential-balanced signal, so you'll have to convert the signal or find an amp that accepts it.

So yeah, replace the whole thing.

Oh, and you don't have 8 speakers.

You have four 6.5" speakers, two 6x9 woofers and two tweeters.
So you need a pair of 6.5" components, a pair of 6.5" coaxials, and a real woofer to replace the 6x9's.

 

thanks....so I would need a amp that is like xxx watts x 6? ....so should I get a dash kit....cdplayer...and amp first and then replace the speakers....ill probbaly need some help if u dont mind sharing some info since you have already done it...

 

Yeah, that's an ok path, but if you are planning on adding a subwoofer later, I'd recommend doing a 4-channel amp.

Phase 1 - Headunit, dual-amp wiring kit and 4-channel amp. Wire the front door speakers/tweeters to channels 1 & 2, and wire the rear 6x9's to channels 3 & 4. Leave the rear 6.5's unpowered.
Phase 2 - subwoofer(s) and 1/2 channel amp. Wire up the subwoofer(s) to the second amp, and put channels 3 & 4 to the rear 6.5's.
Phase 3 - replace the front 6.5's.
Phase 4 (optional) - replace the rear 6.5's.

 

Ok...so replace the head unit....and most the speakers....leave the 6x9's out? and just use a sub?

is there an amp that can power a set of components, 6.5" mids and a sub so I dont have to have 2 amps?

 

There are some that can, but it limits your options tremendously.

There's about 50,000 different 4-channel amps to choose from and about that many single and dual channel amps to choose from.

There's like 20 6-channel amps that aren't crap, and even less of those that fit in a decent budget.

 

No highs, all lows, gotta be bose.

Pretty standard bose audio quality IMO

 

Not great, but not the worst in the class either.

Definitely a candidate for upgrade IMO.

I left what was there in case I ever sell the car.

Got a new headunit and ran rcas to the amp in the back.

didnt even buy a harness for the radio, I just ran a power wire and a switched wire since im not using the factory speakers.
