Need some advice :)

Alright, so I just graduated from high school yesterday (Class of 2011!) and received a good amount of money from family/relatives. Also my 18th birthday is in a couple weeks. So combine all this with the $200 I had, I think I can afford to finally upgrade my system in my 04' g35 coupe.
Now for my question.
Just how difficult would it be for me to install the JDM DD Kit on my own? And then after that, also install the Pioneer AVIC-X930BT that I want...

the total of the Kit + HU would cost me
$290.00 + $800.00 = $1,090.00

That's already a great deal of money, exactly why I don't want to pay someone to install these for me.
So what do you think?

And also, I still have a whole lot to learn about all this, so if there is anything else that I will need to make this work, please mention it. All suggestions/advice are/is welcome.

Thanks

Plenty of people have done this install as their first, using this guide:
https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-v...urce-list.html

and of course, a few private messages to me.

Read through the above link (sticky'd at the top of this forum) and post up any further questions you have.

It's a pain in the *** if you do something wrong and then you have to troubleshoot. Finding out what you did wrong is what takes up most of the time you're going to be spending to install it yourself if you plan on doing so.

You can get your headunit that you're planning on buying for cheaper elsewhere?

@Wrathernaut, let me get this straight. If I buy the JDM DD Kit do I still need to buy what you posted in the resource list in your topic? Or am I fine as far as resources are concerned after I have the kit?

See this is why I posted here , because people like you save me hundreds of dollars haha.
and do you think that's a good choice for a hu?

Also, how much do you think it would cost to have someone do all this?

Personally if i were in your shoes i would go with a d3 or z3 and save lots of money . The d3 or z3 i actually like better anyway and you can find them for half the price .I love my d3 . You can even spend some of the extra and get a back up cam, bluetooth ,etc . You will need a radio harness metra 707551 or 707550 and antenna adaptor along with the dd and headunit .

The JDM kit includes the trim and a/c controls, you'll still need the steering wheel controls, wiring harness, antenna adapter and (unless your radio comes with one) the universal ddin trim ring (scosche one from my list).

You gotta buy everything that Wrathernaut listed that you need on the thread. It's a pain cause it all adds up to more $$ but you need it for everything to work and all.

but haha no problem and that's a decent headunit definitely, but if you haven't already you should spend some time looking around at your other choices and the features that they have and all. That headunit wasn't in my price range when I bought mine so not sure what other similar options that you'd have out there. Got my open box Pioneer 3200BT off an Ebay auction for around $289 total haha.

When you have someone do this for you.. you have to MAKE SURE that they have experience in doing installs in a G35. If they don't have any experience then it'd be similar to you trying to do it yourself which would be a waste of money and they might not even do it right. Email or call them and ask if they've done installs on a G35 before.

I just called a place recently because I ran into issues with my install and they were saying how they charge around $70 an hour not including surcharge. Make sure you have all the necessary wires, harnesses and etc because if you buy it from their shop then they'll definitely overcharge you by a longshot.

First off, you guys are awesome, and thanks for the help.

Secondly, here is my updated shopping cart. (Stripped straight from Wrathernaut's Resource List)
1 ($10).
<b>Metra 40-NI10</b> Metra 40-NI10
- AM/FM Antenna adapter.
2 ($40). Steering Wheel Interface: - PAC SWI-PS for Pioneer Z110BT -
3 ($34).
PAC ROEM-NIS2"><span style=PAC ROEM-NIS2" /> PAC ROEM-NIS2">PAC ROEM-NIS2
(Would the "Metra 70-7550 (Non-Bose) Wiring Harness" work fine? That would save me about $30.
4 ($290). JDM Kit
5 ($600). And lastly the undecided HU.

Grand Total- Around $975. (Better than before)

Am I still missing anything to make this work?

@LEDmarkers, what you described sounds really nice but the d3's and z3's I've just looked up all come out more expensive, probably because they are newer models. Where can I find the one's you are referring to?

@Wrathernaut, I just might be crazy enough to make a trip like that so be careful what you offer! Haha.

The z3 and D3 are a older model . Imo easier to navagate and build better but its a matter of personal opinion . I bought my D3 in mint condition a few years back and paid 300 . The Z3 has the built in hard drive .When the d3/z3 first came out they were more expensive then the newer models but you can find them for cheap now . Btw bluetooth is a awesome add on . Also steering wheel control is not a must have to install but still a good add on

Heres one i found quick on ebay with extras .
http://cgi.ebay.com/Pioneer-AVIC-D3-dash-Nav-XM-Bluetooth-WMA-MP3-DIVX-/110694917722?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c5ee665a
Also if your running the hu through the stock sound system iv found it better to use the 70-7550 harness

If you're not doing the Z110BT, z120bt, z130bt or x920bt, definitely use the metra axxess aswc instead.
If you have the Bose amplifier you need the ROEM. If you do not have bose, use the 70-7550.

I'm well aware of what's offered. I also have the next two weeks off so you make the trip, I'll make the time. Depending on how fast my soldering gun heats up, I might even be done before the pizza gets cold.

Imo the 707551 with bose works perfect . Theres a thread i posted on it a long time ago . Ill see if i can dig it up . If i remember correctly not using the 7550 can cause hissing .somthing with the low preouts on pioneers . Dont get me wrong a lot of people with bose run the 7551 but i have found the 7550 to be surprisingly a better choice .

oops just realized im not on my other name the04coupe . Oh well heres the link . The sound quality is 100% perfect ,no noise at any level and im picky with audio .OP may also want to check out avic411.com .Great info there and bypass instructions

Brake bypass if you want to watch movies while the car is running or have like a movie running while the car is moving and all. Might be illegal in some states though!
