New to G35 systems

So I live in the DFW area and lately I've been thinking about putting a system into the G, but I have no idea where to start. Off the top of my head, all I can think of is get a touch head unit, some subs, an amp, and a customized box. How much would you guys quote all this at? Can I get a breakdown of the prices I should spend on each? How much does Car Toys charge for them to make the box?

Do not go to car toys. Those are are complete Idiots. Don't go to best buy either.

Here are some quick estimates

Double din - $300-1200
Components(woofers, tweets, and crossovers) - $200+.
Amp(s). $150-300 for a 4 channel and a matching mono. This is each btw.
Sub(s) - $105+

Then you'll need a jdm kit, misc wiring + interconnects, and sound deadening. This alone will put you over $1000.

For some quality equipment you are looking at 2k to get started.

700 for HU
300 Trim
300 amp
200 component set
300 subs
300 wires, harnesses, converters, power cables, sub box (if you build it yourself)

this is a very rough estimate.

^^^ i agree with scott.
for me, i went with a single din stereo and my set up was
150 hu
200 - sub amp
200 - 4 channel amp
100- a/c control trim piece
70- steering wheel control
125 - components up front
100 - 6x9's for the back
100 - 2 amp wiring kits
150 - 2 box enclosures worth of fiberglass materials
200 - each sub is 100
and i feel like im missing about 200 somehwere in there for speaker wire, baffles, dynamat

I'm looking at 2 JL W0 12s for $100. Is that a good deal? I am also confused about the whole 2 channel, monoblock, Dblock amp thing. Can someone explain this to me? If I have to subs, do I need a 2 channel amp? Would Kenwood, Alpine, or JL amp be best?

JL W0's are the bottom of the line speakers. If that's what you're going for...

which w0's..the new ones?

The new ones are good, but need huge boxes. the 12 needs around 2 cubes sealed to be ruler flat. No way you're fitting 2 in that trunk.

If I get 2 10" subs, can I hook them both up to a 500 watt 1 channel amp and have everything working good? Overall, what would you guys say is the must have subs and amp (brands and specifics) for a G coupe? I'm trying to budget everything under $400 and craigslisting like crazy, but still want a good bump to the G.

There are so many ways you can do this, but quality equipment will cost you. BTW, there is nothing wrong with Best Buy in general--it depends on the particular store and the individuals employed in that department (I work at a Best Buy on weekends and love the audio tech guys at my store).

To change EVERYTHING and have good equipment you are realistically looking at $2k-$4k.

I am as follows (Retail prices shown during period purchased):
HU - Kenwood DNX6160 $899.
Dash Kit - Metra Double Din (JDM would be nice...but $$$). Doesn't look bad though. $149.
Harness - Metra <$20.
Antenna Adapter - Metra <$20.
Steering Control - Axess ~ $60.
Door Speakers - Infinity Kappas ~$325 total I think.
Subs - Dual 10" Infinity Kappas ~$150 - $179 each.
Amps - Infinity 4-channel and Mono Kappa amps ~$700 total.
Amp Kit - Kicker PDK1 dual amp kit $399.
Audio Cables - Tried KnuKonceptz (defective), then went with Kickers. ~$120
Sub Box - Bassworx Sealed matching subs required cu. $105
Capacitor - 1 Farad ~$90
Labor - I paid Best Buy employee pricing.

It adds up, but I THOROUGHLY enjoy the setup.

He's speaking the truth.

I'm at 1800 and I dont have to buy amps or subs (already owned) or pay for installation (do it myself).

But I'm a top of the line kind of guy.

I know it's a lot, but I'm talking about doing it right and with quality equipment specific to the G (not saying quality is synonymous with brand names). Keep in mind the OP would like a touchscreen HU as well.
