The last car I owned I had used Raammat and used 1 layer mat and 1 layer foam. This was in a car with stock stereo. I can't say It improved the driving experience that much. It was quieter, but I can't say it what I expected for 200 bucks / 40 or 50 pounds of deadener. I did the doors, trunk floor and lid, rear seat bottom and rear seat floor. This was on an Altima.

Now my friends Corvette, we did the doors and trunk floor (also stock stereo) and saw a huge improvement in NVH.

My opinion: You'll have to pick your battles: Do you want to completely deaden all rattles, or deaden the car? Deadening rattles is easy: use foam / fabric / socks. To deaden panels, I've used bags of packing peanuts stuffed in grocery bags in the unibody spaces. Cheap, but effectives varies.

+1. Between my cambered tires, suspension setup, wheel bearings starting to go, and my exhaust setup, my cabin noise is fairly high. I've taken care of 75% of the rattles, but sound deadening is a completely new project.

Does anyone know where the most bang for the buck areas to deaden in the G coupe are? As discussed, the rear deck/trunk and door panels account for the majority of the rattles. But what areas can be deadened and see the most significant improvement in NVH/cabin noise? also, does anyone know how to reduce the god forsaken squeaking coming from the sunroof weather stripping/seal during high torsion moments like entering a driveway etc.? That is driving me insane!

@G3531
How did your rattle exorcism go? Anything to report, or did you even finish? I remember it took me a good portion of the day, in Texas summer heat, to do.

Well, to be honest, i spent so much time focusing on paint/clearcoat restoration yesterday that I wound up saving the rattle fix for another day. Still got the felt tape though. That was a paaain to find. So i bought 25 feet of it. Hope that'll do.
I'll get ahold of you when I start and get back to driver with an after action report!
Anyone interested in pictures?

This weekend.
It's going down.
Got the G dropped on S Techs and HP's last weekend and just didn't have it in me to tear the rear decklid apart after all was said and done.
Sooo, Saturday is the target date.
Any protips I can get before diving in would be apprecaited.
Really want to do this to contribute to the wealth of knowledge around here that has helped me so much along the way so far.

TAKE YOUR TIME! There are a lot of fastners and clips you can over look trying to get to the rear deck. The liner itself is nearly identical, but a hair thicker, to the trunk liner. That being said, if you're not gentle on the disassembly, you can tear it. The deck lid and the pillar pieces hook together on each side, so like I said be careful. Also, while you're there, tighten any bolts you see. All that bass for those AWESOME (lol) speakers can loosen up stuff and make more rattles. Foam everything down. After my first foam run, I test fit it back in and looked for more contact points. Also, put foam on the speaker shroud on the deck piece. That will prevent the bass from rattling the contact point between the speaker and the deck liner. Unplug your battery. when you remove the pillar pieces, the airbag curtains are behing that and you have to mess with them IIRC. So i decided to take that extra precautionary step. That is everything I can think of off the top of my head. If anything comes to mind, I'll edit the post. Good luck!

Such a helpful community we have here.
Honestly, I just bought the felt tape. By the sounds of what you've described, it may be in my best interest to invest in a little foam. Since I'm going to be in there already, I suppose I should probably just go all the way.

Yeah whatever works. I used this, link below. It was perfect for what I needed to accomplish. Buy the thickest tape you can. They sell 1-2" sizes. home depot and lowes sell it in the window weather stripping area.

Sometimes the tape is too thick, height wise. So I cut the excess off. If its too thick, the deck trim wont fit back in properly.

FYI, I'm currently tearing out most of the interior and replacing all audio components in my '03 G35 sedan. During this process I am also installing "sound deadening" material - in the form of Peel & Seal from Lowes. It looks like Dynamat but is a billion times cheaper (and surely doesn't work as well). Should be okay for a budget job; but I've heard mixed reviews.

I'm installing the Peel & Seal inside the doors, on the parcel shelf and around the interior of the trunk. I CANNOT stand rattling, and after the new amp/sub/speakers are installed, I'm sure I will uncover a bunch of new rattles that the Bose system didn't have the power to expose.

Good luck! I will post pics in a new thread.
