Aftermarket HU, keep Bose speakers/amp, & add sub/amp?

Is anyone running this config? If so, how do you like it? Any advice? BTW, I searched this sub forum going back to 2014 and couldn't find anything that addressed this specifically or find any feedback on this, so yes, I did search. If I happened to miss it, then apologies in advance.

Config:
- Aftermarket head unit hooked up to existing Bose amp/speakers (including Bose sub) utilizing PAC ROEM-NIS2.
- Adding a standalone amp & sub utilizing the sub pre-outs from the aftermarket head unit.

Pros / Cons or otherwise?

Given the fact that the Bose speakers suck and the amp is prone to failure (also is crappy) I wouldn't go that route. It sucks that the only way to really upgrade the system is go aftermarket DD, front components, a sub and an amp (5 channel) or 2 amps (1 for sub and 1 for speakers) but that's the reality of our cars.

Install is done. It's readily apparent that I have a lot of tweaking to do. The Pioneer head units have a butt ton of settings (crossover, EQ, speaker levels, etc) that need to be dialed in to match having it all paired with a sub. Otherwise, I think it's not bad for a budget based system that is obviously not competition grade. Good enough for now!

i second what he said ^^^ at least add a pair of components to compliment your new sub. your just adding bass, and more adjustments to your speaker settings. i dont think your gonna see a true improvement in speaker sound quality because they're still being powered from the stock bose amp.. you can get a solid pair of components for $80-$100, and alpine sells a small speaker amp "KTP-445U" that you can add later, its $150 or less, and it doesnt get wired from the battery, install is easier and you save money on the wiring kit. but if your happy with the sound u got from just adding a sub, rock-on!! some people are more bass head than treble
