4080 Box, 10w6v2 or 10w7?

I know the 10w6v2 will fit the 4080 box, others have done it andposted, will the 10w7 fit? If so, which is the better choice, considering that money, while not unlimited, isn't too big of a concern?

Also, recommended amps? Looking at a JL 500w/1, or maybe some type of Alpine amp, as IF I ever replace the stock head unit, I will get an Alpine head unit.

Thanks for any help
Dave

I'd have to know the internal volume of the 4080 box. My suspicion is that you'd better off using a W6 or W3.
Find out what the volume of the 4080box and then go to the JL audio webpage and figure out what sealed volume each sub needs. Don't forget to subtract the volume the subwoofer takes up in the box too. Sometimes less is more.

I'm surprised an audiophile like you asks that question. You know it really comes down to personal preference. I am also partial to JL Audio. They may not have the best, but you can't go wrong with them.

I PM'd 4080 about which subs fit his box. I was told you can use the JL 8" W7 or the 10" W6V2, the 10" W7 requires a bigger box it's too deep and does not fit. I just purchased a JL 500/1 and a 10" W6V2. I don't have my coupe yet but I will get a 4080 box to move it over when it arrives.

I guess that would have been the easy solution....

Thanks

I ask this question because there's many subs out there that will outperform a JL audio sub for less money.

I know for a fact that a 10w7 will not fit a 4080 box, I have the box and there's no way that it will fit.

I think there is always going to be something out there that can outperform one sub at a cheaper price. And you know that not any sub is perfect and that many speakers do certain things well. So you have to pick and choose according to your needs. Personally I think just a 10W0 is all most people need with lots of juice. You do have a good point and I respect your point because I've seen your choices in equipment, but for most JL audio will do. Like I said earlier JL may not be the best but you can't go wrong with them.

No W7s or square woofers, sorry. I tried to make a universal enclosure that would not take up space in the G35s trunk and would look factory. In doing this I have eleminated the possiblity of using really large inefficient subs and square ones too.

Trying to make everyone happy, 4080

As a note, I am thouroughly happy with my 10w6v2 in 4080's box. I'm sure that there might be sub out there that will outperform the JL, for less money, but I trust JL Audio to have good performance, and I went with them, and I am happy I did.

I would not power a sub with a JL 300/4. You have 4 channels running to a mono sub. At best you could bridge 4 channels into 2 channels. Hooking up two amps to a dual voice coil sub is not recomended, one amp on each coil. I'm sure you could do it but still it's not very efficient. Speaking of efficiency the 300/2 and the 300/4 are full range class AB amps. They produce very nice sound but are very ineffcient. The sub amps are digital switching Class D amps. The digital-switching amp will be less of a current drain on your car's electrical system. Typical efficiency for AB amps is about 50%, whereas you can get 70-90% from a digital-switching amp.
Some people complain about lights flickering with the music up loud. Take this into consideration when designing your system. My setup is a 300/2 and 500/1 with a 10" W6V2 wired for 8 ohms. 2 ohms was to loud and boomy. It's currently in My Jeep Grand Cherokee and I have no problems, sounds great. Can't wait to hear it in a G.

well the reason that i said JL 300/4 is because i want to power the front MB quart as well and bridge the rear for the sub ...im thinking a sub like w3v2...im new to audio stuff so is there another suggestion for this ? or going with other kind of amps?
