I need a carputer, HELP!

Hello,
I am interested in getting a carputer. I am planning on going with the digitalwheelz screen. I dont know what to go with as far as a computer though. All I am basically going to do is watching movies, videos, playing music, and maybe occiasionally surfin the net where service is available. One major issue is speed, I can't stand any lag so I would like the lag to be a minumum when doing anything. I've heard some things about the pentium 4's being too much too handle? I don't know.

Other issues include, what is the deal with when you just turn your car on. Do u have to wait until the computer boots up everytime? That could get to be a pain. What about the sound, how is the sound quality. I have stock bose, can it be wired into the stock bose so it sounds just as good?

Last thing is how to hook it up, is there a DIY on carputers anywhere? I have already installed the AVN2454 which I am now selling
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5792085839so I know a little bit about installing, wouldnt say im on a professional level.

oh yeah one more thing, since its being controlled with the touch screen, does anyone have issues with things being too small? I would think that would be a problem that u can touch the right thing?

thanks for anyone's help.. i know theres a lot of carputer experts out there

I would recommed going with a VIA SP13000 carputer http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...products_id=84, its very hard to beat for the price / power.

A power supply like the M1-ATX will handle turning on and off the computer with your car. Using hibernate it will take less then 30 seconds till your computer is up. Using S3 standby and you can get that number down to 5 seconds.

Sound quality is as good as the head unit if you go with a decent sound card and PAC AAI-NIS adapter.

Yes, a touch screen is too hard to use in windows on a 7" screen. You'll definitly need some touchscreen friendly software.

thanks god, I have a queston regarding the sound also. I heard that if you are using the stock headunit that I would need to buy an amp to get the computer sound to the speakers, yet I've seen plenty of people with carputers with stock units. Whats the deal with that?

Mushdawg,

To get the carputer sound in you will need the PAC AAI-NIS auxillary input adapter. It creates an auxillary input for the carputer by using the SAT button on your stock headunit. If you go to g35ipod.com, there is a great write up on how to install it.
