Anyone make a successful backup of NAV DVD?
I went and put down the cheddar on a pack of dual layer DVD+R blanks and attempted a copy with Nero.
No errors during the copy, but the Navi won't read it. Boots up and then comes back and says "wrong version."
Anyone successfully make a copy yet? I prefer not to keep the original in the car if a backup can be made. I can try some other options, but before I make another $7 coaster thought I'd see if someone has already figured it out!

my buddy was able to make a copy of the kenwood nav dvd for me.. can't believe kenwood charges $400 for a copy.. i got mine nav unit a couple weeks before him, and he got the newer version.. ahh well.. you can also try creating an iso of disc.. most of the time that will grab everything on the disc
Is the disc actually dual layer? I haven't checked but software usually is not. Clone DVD might help the backup.

Does the Nav player even support DVD+/- R DL (DVD 8.4)? A very large percentage of players still do not read these, even though they'll play stamped DL's (DVD 9) all day. This is not accidental
If so, you'll need to do as suggested, creating a disk image (.iso) preserving the formating. You need to do this with a ripping program that will maintain the structure and create an .mds file which is where the layer break was and must be on the copy. If the burn program doesn't ask for it, the disk won't work. The .iso file by itself does not contain layer break info.
Protection schemes on data DVD's has gotten less attention than movies, which are now child's play to back-up. Good luck.
It's worth checking whether the disk is dual layer or not.

Come on people, SOMEBODY here might have a double layer DVD-R sitting at home. Try to make a copy and let us know.
btw: Nav disk Ver 6.4 will be released in October or November. So don't waste your money purchasing a new ver 6.3 right now.
