DIY Speaker install on G35 sedan with non-bose
I have decided to start an upgrade on my 2004 sedan (without the bose system) using Polk DB series speakers. Just wanted to say thanks to khsonic03 for some good info https://g35driver.com/forums/audio-video-electronics/65333-audio-upgrade-complete-pics.html. I will skip the door removal because it has been documented several times and because it is fairly easy. I think there is some confusion between the Bose and the non bose system and maybe this install will clear things up.
This is the factory speaker that was removed from the front door.
Note that the speaker is integrated into the speaker mount. It is all one assembly. You cannot use this speaker mount to mount new speakers. You have to buy a spacer or make one yourself. I decided to make one myself using 3/4" MDF.
Check out this Do it yourself webpage.

The speakers used for the front doors are 6.5" Polk DB series components. I am very sorry for the low resolution photos. The factory speakers that were removed were panasonic as the picture below shows. In case you can't see the lettering, they are rated at 4 ohms and 40 watts.

The install was pretty much straight forward. The wiring color code for the front speakers are as follows:
Left front speakers - positive is blue and negative is black/white.
Right front speakers - positive is brown and negative is black/red.
I ran the tweeter wires directly to the crossover and the woofer wires directly to the crossover. I then cut off the harness that connected to the old woofer and spliced its wires with new speaker wires and ran it to the input of the crossover.
Stay tuned

I will be putting in the new POLK rear coax speakers today. The rear factory speakers are exactly the same as the factory front speakers so the MDF spacers are the same. I thought the rear speakers would be coax.
My impression of the new Polk front component speakers is pure amazement at the refreshing new sound. The sound level at volume 16 is louder than when I had the old speakers set at volume 24. The sound is also crystal clear as opposed to the distorted sound of the old speakers. I also could tell the difference with SCV set at the different levels. I could only imagine the sound when I complete the installation with the rear coaxials.

Lookin' good. Only one question though. Did you replace the amp too or the speakers only? I am pretty sure those are 4ohm speakers, it would seem a bit odd that the volume would be louder on those speakers. If our stock speakers were 4ohms and you added 2ohm speakers, that would make sense, but the other way around doesn't. Generally, there is a reduction in volume when switching the speakers on our cars. I am pretty sure even the non bose system is 2ohms.
