Yea, but if money is really no object that's the best way to do it, IMO.
Why you ask? Glad you did....
1) Stealthy...when the Aftermarket Screen goes back in..looks like your running stock.
2) More of an "OEM feel"....the stock unit is chillin...and the aftermarket unit pops out like the factory Nav.
3) Visibility Wise the higher the better so you don't have to take your eyes off the road while viewing the Navi, Playlist, or Porno Movies.
But realistically...your better off just going with the double din conversion kit.

There's been a few guys that have done it; I don't suggest it. He used to post all the time; he really liked it because it was hidden and less likely to get stolen. If you install it like that you will have to cut into your AC vents, or you have to remove the CD changer and rewire a bunch of stuff... They also used a really good custom installer. Your best bet is to go with a full-size double-din navi; it looks like it belongs (unlike single din) and its a fairly straight foward install (no surprises).

you don't need to cut your vents but you will need to have your factory cd changer removed.

I like the idea of NAV in the upper cubby for all the reasons mentioned in this thread above, especially the better visibility factor. Can you please explain the whole process of getting a N2 in the upper cubby? Things like
1. Do you need to create any custom part for holding the unit in the cubby? And how much did it cost? Can you please list the overall list of parts needed for this project?
2. What exactly you mean by "You will have to remove the CD changer"? I guess the CD Changer is not usable with the DD install also. So what gives?
3. Who did the install? I know that I have no mechanical/electrical skills to do such an install myself. Any idea how much would such an install cost?
Thanks in advance

I've taken out the nav cubby and placed an aftermarket HU in there to see how much room is left. If you mount it at ~45 degrees, it will still stick out and you'll need to cut the metal bracket that holds the stock HU. Depending on the depth of your nav HU, you don't have to cut the vents or remove the cd changer but I would guess the depth to be less the ~7" or the HU will stick out if placed at 45 degrees. A custom bracket is a must since there's nothing left to support the unit if you remove the cubby.
