JL 500/1 Amp TOO POWERFUL for JL10"w6?
Mikey: How did you blow it?
Moog, I got mine installed at Audiovision in Mesquite. I'm going back tomorrow to get it fixed, if they can't get it right, did you mention that you knew some friends that knew how to fix it?

Btw, I have 4080's custom fiberglass box. The installer said it doesn't hit as hard because there isn't a lot of air space in the corner...

The 10W6V2 only requires .6 cuft. in a sealed enclosure per the manufacture of the speaker, JL Audio. My enclosure has .85 cuft. of internal air space. The sub takes up approx. .2 cuft., that would net .65 cuft of air space that the woofer is "seeing." The installer needs to find something else to blame, like his intallation/tuning ability.

with the jl 500/1, or any amp for that matter, you need to be careful in setting your gains. With a 10w6, the RMS is about 250 watts i believe. With the 10w6v2, the RMS is about 400 watts. In the correct enclosure, such as the 4080 box, you shouldnt have any problem with the JL 500/1. However, as others have stated, if the gains are not set properly, you will definitely blow your subs.
FYI, I am currently running a pair of OZ audio matrix elite subs that are rated at 500 watts rms. However, i am currently running an amp that is capable of 1500 watts rms to the pair. My gains are set to account for that slight variation in RMS ratings between the subs and the amp.

ok the sub is back up and running, is there any dummies guide for setting the gains? Or is it basically how much bass I want to put out and at what risk? As of right now I don't know what the settings of the gain are like, I'm not sure if the installer has messed with it or not. This is a 10w6v2 sub in the 4080box btw for clarification.
