for that price range. i'd recommend the alpine type r.
i'm a high end audio guy and when my friend pulled up with his new type r, i was pleasantly surprised. for a sub he got for 150 it sure sounded almost as good as my idmax. it does sound a little sloppy on the really low end but other than that, it's a great sub for it's price

Id go with type R, I got mine about a month ago love it. I got it from ikesound.com for around 120ish shipped for the dual 2 ohm. Cheapest place I think on the internet really close to eBay price. The JL W3 is almost doulbe the price of a Type R, dont really think its worth it then, and the Alpine Type R has a bigger magnet and can take up to 1500 watts peak.

Digital Designs DD2012a, marked at $169 right now and you order directly from the factory, may actually be cheaper than on the site, just have to call. I had 2 in my last car with 1000watts total to them in a ported box.

you know honestly it depends on whether you want something with a lot of bump or something that hits nice and clean. i mean you could probably get a cheap sub with 1000wrms handling capability but you would seriously lack in sound quality. if you're willing to shell out $50-75 more i'd reall recommend that you just get an IDMAX

Check ebay for a 12W3v2 and use it in a sealed enclosure. Nothing will touch this sub in the sub $200 price range. Just make sure u get the proper enclosure size and use the recommend wattage.

Do you know what amp u are using?
You normally wouldnt run a 4-channel into a single sub.
You should either bridge a 2-channel amp, or use a mono amp.
If you are running one sub you want to present a 4ohm load.
Again, if you value sound quality, make sure u use a sealed enclosure.
