V1 Hardwire

Santa brought me a V1 for X-Mas. Can some explain to me how they hardwired their V1. I read all the threads up to this point and would rather tap the power from the homelink from inside the trim. Has anyone did this? My concern is if I use wire taps, it would be to bulky to fit within the trim. Thanks.

I had mine hardwired by a local stereo shop. Fits under the trim just fine. The invisicord thing is cool though.

buy the Littel Fuse Add-A-Fuse adaptor to tap power off of your fuse panel. that way you won't have to cut any of the factory wiring hanresses. You can pop the cover off the a pillar to run the power wire up from the fuse panel and through the dash up to the head liner.

Yuck, I hope nobody ever cuts up the factory wiring. That is asking for trouble, both from an electrical standpoint and from a warranty standpoint. Any wiring that is done to a car should be done such that it could be removed very quickly with no visible evidence, if at all possible. That is what drove my cord idea in the first place. Vette owners do something very similiar to the folks here, running power lines down along trim to the fuse box. Some actually spliced and/or cut into their factory wiring...

I used a test light to find an "accessory power wire" near the fuse box area (left foot area). I T-tapped the wire and ran it up into the dash, up to thru the driver's side pillar and tucked the wire into where the headliner meets the windshield. Can't see any wires. Only thing you can see is where the connector jack comes out to plug into the V1 on the left side of my rear view mirror.

Easy install. I used what the V1 came with and nothing extra.

Thanks for everyone's response. I took tomcatm's suggestion and took it one step further. I made my own. I went to a local electronic store (Fry's) and bought a pack of male connector for $1.19. Took a old black phone line I had laying around and spliced the ends, connected the male connectors to it. A little heat shrink cord to make it look nice. Voila, my own invisicord for about 10 cents. It workes perfectly. Easy to push in the connectors in and out if I need to move the V1 to my FX or removed the entire setup for any reason. Gotta love it!

DO NOT use testlights, you're just asking for trouble.

Valentine One Radar Detector B1k. The hardwire install is a pretty easy diy trust me, it was the very first mod I did to my car and I had never done any work on a car before.

I just installed the 6" invsicord on my v1. It was BARELY long enough since I use the radar mount made by Mike at my350z. BUt it was an easy install (yes you have the wires documented correctly in the instructions for a G35) and it works perfectly.

So you got mike's mount to fit? What year is your car? Coupe or Sedan?
