Adding new amps - Phoenix gold opinions?

I'm going to buy new amps to connect to the Bose HU. I like the JL audio amps, but too expensive. Any opinions on the Phoenix Gold Xenon X100.4? I will be running these to CDT comps in front, and CDT in rear. Also thinking about Phoenix Gold Xenon X400.1 for Sub later on. Also, are the Xenon series much better than Octane and worth the price difference? Finally, anyone know of any good on-line dealers for Phoenix gold?

I just read a thread on someones install and he used PG Xenon amps. I'll try to find his screen name for you. You might want to PM him and see what he thinks of them. I have an Octane series amp in my boat and I'm pretty happy with it. Never tried nor heard the Xenon series though.

Here's that thread.

Run away.

PG is not the company they once were.

I wouldn't buy their stuff.

What's your budget?

You'll want more power than that for the CDT comps. I suggest at least 100 w/ch.

The PG Xenon amps are decent for the money. I have the x400.1 for my sub although I still don't have it installed. Probably won't have my amps and sub installed until Spring. Just don't have the time.

I have CDT comps for the front installed but just running off the bose amp right now. Still sounds much better than stock though. I have a Diamond Audio 5600.2 (150 w/ch) waiting for the comps. Just by looking at the two amps, the Diamond Audio is made much better than the PG.

Gotta agree with duderino. PG was Once many years ago high up on the food chain, the past few years theyve been slowly dwindling. I as well as many other dealers have been dropping them and not wanting any affiliation at all anymore.

el_duderino, was hoping to keep the amp price in the ~$400 range - the JL Audio 450/4 is my ideal amp, but too expensive, so I'm looking for something similar in power, but lower cost. After more search on the PG, I fully agree with you. Not a good choice. Zapco is way out of my price range as well, and seems the DLS amps are in the same price ranges. Any other decent amp brand I've missed?

Try looking into a Diamond D3 400.4, Arc KAR 400.4, Eclipse EA-4000. Im sure I could think up others, but all of these will fit well within your budget.
