Radar detector placement

Have an Escort 8500 which I'd like to mount between the mirror and top of windshield. Fit seems a little tight for the suction cup mount system, plus the windshield slope doesn't match up well without bending the mount. I was hoping someone had already come up with a better or custom mount. Any help out there on this?

Thanks

Re: Radar detector placement

On my last car I just bent the mounting point to a disired level and removed the suction cups and replaced them with some heavy-duity velcro. You can get some awesome velcro at a fabric store (yeah, at the fabric store).. I was the only guy there and was getting some weird looks from some of the women there.. but hey.. its really good velcro.

You mistake those looks on the women. They were all just check'n you out. They love guys that can sew, etc.!

Re: Radar detector placement

Thanks for the advice on the velcro option. The window slope I also accounted for by bending the mount. However the detector needed to go down from the top of the window in order for the sunvisors to work ok. I finally just move it to where it need and suctioned cupped to the window using the standard mount. Works fine and is still in the shaded part of the window, so it is concelaled from the front.

Nailed the opposition on the way home today, and gave me about a miles warning before we finally crossed paths. He was running the Ka band radar.

Re: Radar detector placement

Where did you position your V1? I've got mine just below the window tint. I could put it higher without blocking the rearward laser/radar detector but I worry that the tint would interfere with the foward laser/radar detector.

Also, how have you powered your V1? Did you find some way to inconspicuously route the straight cord to a power source? What power source did you use? I've got the coiled cord running to the accessory outlet now but I want to hide this thing to some degree.

Check out the first picture in the photo galllery. I have my V1 just above the dash hardwired in.

There's some good discussion on the V-1 detector placement, wiring, and mounting on an old thread:
