Alpine Type R 10" 1022 or 1042?
I want to add some bass so I'm going with a 10" sub, the alpine type R it has 500w rms and is cheaper than the jl audios, should I get the one with 2 ohms or 4 ohms? What is the difference?
2 ohm runs subwoofers that present a 2 ohm load. 4 ohm runs subwoofers that present a 4 ohm load. if keeping stock HU, read the sticky thread at the top of the forum regarding keeping the stock HU. I'm fairly certain the alpine amps don't support differential-balanced signals on the inputs.
2ohm and 4ohm is the resistance the amp sees when it's hooked up. One isn't necessarily better than the other. It just depends on what kind of amp you're going to be using and whether it's capable of handling the load. Most mono amps can go down to 2ohms and put out max power. If you have a 2 channel amp and you're gonna bridge the channels together, then most likely the lowest load it can take is 4ohm.
Decide on the amp you want to use first, and then get the sub that will let you utilize the most power out of the amp.
