Re: Window MOD

What I meant was since the module can't unlock the doors the auto locking feature doesn't work right on the sedans and the Zs. On these cars you have to manually unlock the doors every time you want to get out, and that is too much of a hassle for most people. I guess since it is a 'auto-locking' feature it technically does work right, it would just be much better if it could unlock the doors too.

Re: Window MOD

Kevin, I have the same issue. For some reason, my Rollup unit somehow loses the programming for Autolock on, and I need to reprogram it. It's happened to me twice now, including today, which is why I'm here, looking for the instructions on reprogramming it (which I have just done).

Anyway, I doubt my unit ever loses power, but understand that is the most probable cause. Putting that aside for the moment, can you think of any other possible cause? Maybe there's a way to cause the unit to very briefly lose power with repeated remote keypresses (like unlocking it) or holding the button down for an extended period of time?

Re: Window MOD

There should be no other instance that should cause the circuit to reset. It is possible that the software is being reset due to a variety of things. We are working on a software upgrade that will fix the problem by permently storing the programming options in a non votile part of the memory.

On another note, does any one have a four door sedan with a window module installed that only controls the front windows and not that back? We are working on modules for windows that are not controlled by the BCM (thanks to our UK friends). If you have a sedan that meets this criteria and are interested in testing this out please let me know. The only drawback to this is that the rear windows don't have the anti-pinch system and most likely the kids will be in the back.

Oh, and is anyone going to post about this mod in the review forum????

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Hey Guys, I thought I would give a little update. I had the module for 3 months before I got around to installing it. It wasn't hard- just soldered 5 wires. Of course, I managed to get inattentive and soldered the blue wire to the first purple wire I found. When it didn't work right, I saw the sentence about removing the speaker to get to the purple wire, and not use the one in the power window harness. So I removed the door panel again, and 10 min. later everything worked great. Surprisingly, my wife likes the window up feature more than the auto lock. I bought it for the auto lock, since we don't always remember to lock the doors when driving. I think it is a good safety feature to help prevent car-jacking. My wife will sit in the car reading at lunch, and now she doesn't have to reinsert the key in the ignition, she can just use the fob. Thanks Kevin for a great product. Keep looking for other mods, and send out an email to your customers with any updated products.

I have one question about the installation. I am going to do the install next week, and want to get one thing straight. When we 'tap' into wires in car, did you guys cut the wire and solder 3wires together(two from the existed one wire and 1 from the module we purchased)? or did you just cut the wire cover part only and solder the module wire on to that?

I stripped a one centimeter section of original car wire insulation to expose the underlying copper wire. I then spliced the new wire by twisting it around the exposed copper wire and soldering the whole thing. The soldered area was then covered with electrical tape. BTW, be sure and remove the speaker to access the purple wire. All the other wires are fully exposed without any other gyrations.

when i do all of my installs i use blue wire taps and then tape them up when im done. the wire taps require no cutting of either wire. you can get them at any autoparts store for like 2 bucks. let me know if you have any questions when you are doing the install. send me a pm and ill give you my number or aim screenname if you want.

Wire taps are quick and easy, but may (or may not) lead to problems in the long run. KPtechnologies recomends soldering all connections. Our modules were designed so that you did not have to cut ANY wires, as most new car owners are very hesitant to do so. Personally I find the wires I want and strip back about 3/8 of an inch. I use a pair of strippers to break the insulation, just like you normall do. But, since there is no end of the wire I just use the strippers to push the insulation apart. This way if you ever decide to take the window module out (to have your window motor replaced) it is very easy to make the inside of the door look stock again. Let me know how your installation goes!

Thanks,

Reliability of the window module over a long period of time. Those quick taps don't make the most secure connection in the world and over time they can either fall off or corrode. You have to keep in mind that every time the person shuts thier door its going to cause the connection to move. That is why we recomend to solder everything.

The software has not been changed yet, we are still using the same program that we've been using for 6 months now. We havn't have 'many' complaints about the auto lock feature. It seems like 1 in 25 modules has an issue with it. The EEProm upgrade is needed, but I've been very busy working on some new stuff and its hard to justify trying to fix something that isn't necesarrily broken.

Nope

I am still stuck on the 'beep beep' part! I can't find a nice, cheap, weather-proof beeper that can easily be installed in the G. The closest thing I have found so far is a small alarm siren. The 'beep beep' of a small alarm siren just won't do!
