I am also interested. Even though I have a sedan, I guess I would forgo the unlock feature because I do not want to give up retained power. I often forget to close the sunroof before I turn off the engine. Retain power gives me a second chance to close the sunroof without turning the engine back on.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

window roll up sounds like a good idea, but I am not sure about the automatic door locks.
What if I turn on my car, to warm it up, and leave it running with the door closed. Will I get locked out of my car?
Maybe this has been answered already, but I didn't see it anywhere.

Warming your car up could be a problem, but it is a problem that is avoidable. Six seconds after you start the car the doors will lock. After this initial locking you can unlock the doors and they will not relock. You will also be able to shut this feature off. I believe for the sedans I'm going to look into making a speed controlled door locking module. It will take some time, but, speed is a much better way to do door locks. Once the car hits 5mph the doors lock and then when the ignition is shut off they unlock. Kinda funny that my last car, a 1994 Cavalier had this feature from the factory!!!!!

P.S. Still waiting on the boards.... any day now

Wow! This would be even more ideal, but now you've got to get a signal from outside the door, right?

I'd certainly settle for the relative ease of the 6 second lock, (which you could disable by default). I always have the wallet key for bizarre lock-out situations.

KPierson,
That seems like a better option, and optimal under certain situations. I'd hate to see someone leave their car within the 6 seconds, and get locked out

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

If I made a speed control module it would be seperate from the window module. I'll have to sit down and think about exactly how I'll do it. It is possible to lock and unlock the doors from inside the car, and it is also possible to get the vehicle's selectronics speed inside the car also. So, it would made logical sense to put the module close to the BCM. I might build a 'convienence' module that will include things like:
passenger mirror dipping while in reverse
interface for dual stage shock sensor with factory alarm
VDC memory
maybe some more...

These are all features that people all seem to want on the G35/350Z and are all feasable. The one really nice feature of the design of the g35 is that almost every electronic component ties into the BCM, making it possible to make all your connections at one place!

I'll keep you all posted on progress...

KPierson,

Maybe it's time to focus on the very useful device you've designed already! There are definitely other neat things that could be done, though.

In regard to the 6-second locking dilemma, I'm content with it as-is. But there may be a simple solution using a signal available within the door: You could just inhibit the 6-second timer lock function if (1) the door is currently open, in which case the timer waits until the door is shut, then resumes the 6-second count, or (2) if the door is opened after the timer begins its sequence, then the lock sequence is cancelled and does not resume. You can sense the door open by using the sill light voltage.

This is mostly software, with one more wire to connect (door light). Thoughts?

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

Thats not a bad idea at all. It would work and it would be very easy to implement. The more I think about it though the more I want to remove the auto locking from the window mod and do a speed controlled door locking. It is possible to send a lock pulse from inside the vehicle, as the door lock actuators are actually controlled by the BCM. At the BCM is also the Vehicle Speed Sensor wire. It is also possible to get an ignition signal there, 12 volts, ground, and some other good things. I'm thinking about building an BCM Upgrade module that will add memory to the VDC switch, speed controlled locking/ignition controlled unlocking, and add the ability to connect a dual stage shock sensor (this would basically add a pre warn circuit for light bumps and would set off full factory alarm on harder hit... would use DEI shock sensor like other people, as it is really nice and cheap too). I'm also considering the passenger mirror down while reversing thing, but, its not at the BCM and would require at least 4 relays, a microcontroller, a lot of software, some more transistors, some resistors.... you get the point, so I'm not sure how pracitical it would be. I might try and add sunroof control to the BCM module also. As I stated before I think I came up with a way to make it work.

Kevin

P.S. As I said above the door lock actuator comes from the BCM. That would make it possible to modify my circuit to switch on anything inside the car by pressing the lock button twice. I was thinking it would be cool to use this as an activation input for a remote start. Range would be an issue, but how cool would it be to have remote start from your factory remote!!!! I'm done rambling now

having the window up unit include the door lock feature, which can be disabled is ideal. Sedan people who don't want to unlock their own doors or people that fear locking themselves out can always disable it.

The coupe does not need a door unlock feature, since the lever unlocks the doors.

Re: How about window roll-up via OEM remote ?

OK, I have changed my mind again.

Here is what I think I'm going to do now. I will leave the auto door locking after ignition is on for six seconds. I will rebuild the code to shut the door locks off after ignition is off. If you don't need\want the unlock it will be as easy as not hooking up the unlock wire. If you don't want any locking\unlocking features it will be as easy as shutting this feature off through the 'easy' programming (wait for the doors to auto lock and then push the 'lock' button on the remote three times within 5 seconds). Then, I'll still build the other module because there are features that I still want. If other people are interested in the speed controlled door locks, the VDC memory switch, and whatever else i decide to put on it I'll consider ordering custom boards for that also. This way, people will be able to pick and choose what all features they want. Everybody happy now????

The circuit boards should be here today or tomorrow, but I am flying to atlanta tonight and staying there unitil Friday. So, I won't get them until this weekend.

looks like I'm going to be busy this weekend!!!
Kevin
