Radar dector behaved oddly to police radar?

The wierdest thing just happened. I've had my V1 for three years now. Never had a problem. Went for a drive in my town and there was an empty cop car just parked off to the side with one of those "This is your speed" thingies attatched to it. Drove past it in the opposite direction and my detector never went off. That puzzled the hell out of me. So I made a U-turn and drove past it in the direction it was clocking people. It read my speed. Nothing from my detector. Then, as soon as I got right next to the cop car, I had the faintest Ka warning go off.

A lot of good that is gonna do me at that point. So I drove past it a couple of more times playing with the filtering settings. Same thing. Just the faintest warning that only appears as I'm right next to the car. My V1's always been able to pick those things up from a mile away. Especially the ones they have at toll booths. Any ideas on what was going on with this stand alone cop car?

Could it be using some newer technology?

send it in for an upgrade, that's the great thing about the V1, you will never need to buy another one when new technology comes out. you can check on their website if you need an upgrade, just put in your V1's serial number and they will tell you if you need one or not. hope that helps.

An X50 would have caught it.

Oh Gaud, I just had to say that, didn't I....

Those things usually peg my V1 for about a half a mile. They slowly run the strength up until all the LEDs are lit... then back down again.

Could you have changed the operating mode by accident? I usually run mine in the most sensitive mode with the big "A" on the front.

Yeah, that's what I thought, so I tried all the different filtering settings, including A. I drove past it about five different times. I am due for an upgrade since it doesn't have pop protection, but that shouldn't have been the cause.

That happened to me with my old Bell 980. I got an x50 and haven't had a problem since, but I was unable to test against the same "your speed" unit... At first I thought it was POP, but since I've gotten it, all POP signals have been false alarms. There's a number of different technologies that could have been at play. If you can find the "your speed" machine again once you get the newest generation v1 give us an update...

I haven't ran into one of those just yet.

off-topic but curious: what if the sign on it says 'Speed Limit 35' and if your speed is 50, and no actual police units around: would you get a ticket of some sort?? lol

Yes, they have ones that take photos of your license plate if it detects you are speeding. The non-photo ones are much much more common, however. I personally have never come across a photo one... and I'd know, because I usually use the opportunity when I find one of those speed signs to see how high I can get it

I haven't come across a photo unit yet either, but one by me flashes a strobe at you if you go 10+ over.

None the less, I had a friend that ignored them if he didn't see a cop and he got a ticket from a cop hiding around the corner who had a remote on it. IMO its pretty stupid to speed in front of anything that you know is clocking you....

There is one right at my exit for work, its a construction zone that is from 2 lanes to 1. Anything over 90, forget it. Other than that, it's right on.... Its more fun to point another radar unit at it... our mounted unit in one of our car's makes it's display go NUTS....... we have a "speed trailer" that we put up all over town, but theres no place in town to even get much over 60 near it, so I dont know how it behaves at super speeds... that one seems invincible to any of our other radar units...
