Tweeter Install

I was just wondering if anyone had installed tweeters in a non stock location? I was thinking of using the defrost (I guess) vents to install the DLS Nobeluim tweets. I would really like to keep the stock look. Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks!

My primary tweeters are in my kicks. Images great. Soundstage is just a bit above dash level.

Did you flush mount them on the panel or are they stealth mounted? Pics?

Here's a pic of his 2nd set of tweets installed by the kick panel. I really can't tell how he did it. It looks like a little pod that's been trimmed to fit the contours of the kicks.

Here's the link to his setup thread:

Why non-stock location if you want the stock look?
You'll get a better sound stage by keeping them up in the cabin.

Here's what I did to cut my Focals into the OEM location.
Just used a hole saw by hand to cut the plastic.

Hmm, That doesn't look bad at all...
I woulde prefer to keept the stock locations, however I have head that that the higher end DLS tweeters are way too long. The Nobeluims are about 1" long. I just wanted to keep the stock look as much as possible for when it comes time to sell the car.
Thanks for the input!!

Those pods are the surface mount cups that come with the tweets. I have since flushed them into the kicks. I love the way the car images. Especially nice having tweets that play as low as those alpine/scans do.

But you could run into some imaging issues with the tweets and midbass mounted far apart.

No pics. I'll take some this week.

I loooooove those old chrome PPI amps. Very simple and understated. It's the one that kinda bows on the top, right? Sorta looks like a really squatty airplane hanagar?

Ok, so my tweeters came in and they are even bigger than I thought... See them next to the UP6 tweeters!
However the grill will match the stock trim. Does the fitting below look right? semi-stock perhaps.
As far as imagin goes, will it make a difference having them installed lower on the kick panels or next to the 6.5" and should I consider adding/keeping the stock tweeters in addition to the Nobeluim tweeters? Thoughts and insight are appreciated!

Don't mean to threadjack, but if you're looking for a replacement Corner Trim/Sail Panel/Tweeters for your coupe, I have a brand new pair for sale. Check it out in the Marketplace forums:

Now back to the thread...
I installed my Infiniti Kappas in the stock tweeter location and it sounds great. Also, it looks completely stock and I highly recommend it if you can find tweeters that will fit.

That actually looks pretty good right there next to the stock speaker. Looks pretty factory.

Only real advantage I see in putting it in the kick panels is that you'll have one less wire to run through the door which is a PITA. Plus, by putting it on the kicks, you'll place more distance between you and the tweets and thus making the difference in the distance between you and the left and right tweets smaller which would help with sound.

But the door panel mounting looks really good!
