Opinions wanted: ideal autocross tire size?
Hey all - looking for some thoughts or information on what they have run or what they would prefer to run for autocross?
I am planning on some 18" wheels preferably lightweight - at this point i am looking at an 8.5 - 9.5 staggered set-up as my preferred. I need to clear my Akebono's or else i would've possibly opted for some wide 17's.
As for tires, i had planned to run 235or 245F / 265 or 275B - hadn't decided on rubber yet.
my goal is to find a setup that can cover me in autocross but also be used for some 1/4 mile passes as well.
Found some 18" wheels with some 265/35/18's in the front with 285/30/18's in the back - that is too wide wouldn't you say?

I forget what offset our stock wheels are but search for an offset/tire width chart for possible clearance issues. I run in stock so opted for the stock 350Z track wheels (18") as these are the lightest wheels I found available with the same offset. Currently I am running stock width of 225FR/245R. But next set of R-comps im going to bump the fronts to 235 to minimize understeer (biggest flaw) and keep either 245 in rear or go 255 if available. As far as series I have 40 front, and 35 rear. There are charts that tell you limits of tire width vs. rim width as well.

^^I just noticed you are supercharged with probably a considerable hp bump so it would be a good idea to go with as wide of a race rim/tire combo that you have clearance for. Obviously switch to a good synthetic high temp power steering fluid too as your temps will rise with wider/stickier front tires.

Thanks for chiming in...
I went with RPF1's in 9.5 and 10.5 +15 offset all around... weighing in at 18 and change very lightweight and allows wide tires which is nice.
I also picked up some Bridgestone RE01-R tires... 265 width all around - not ideal as i would prefer a 285 or 295 in the rear, but should work for the time being...

sounds like you did your research, wow you were able to fit 265's up front with no fender rolling? That will be night and day for understeer. Did you get 18" wheels? I know when I switch to my autocross set up (18") compared to the stock 19" stock wheels it revs up so much quicker and feels so much more nimble, due to the big weight difference at the wheels. Is this your daily driver set up or just autoX specific set up? Have fun out there!

yeah read alot before i decided...
I haven't mounted them yet, but they are 18" - i am expecting a huge difference in acceleration from the 20" heavy Works i have now...
The rpf's will be strictly a track set-up... the tire sizes are not ideal, but i'm going to try them for now... we'll see what if any rubbing issues i have soon, hoping they are minimal..

I currently Run KDWs 245/40 F and 255/45 R on the Stock 7-spoke 18s. I plan on running in a stock class for auto-x all next season too and my buddy and I who co drive the car are planning on picking up a set of 275/35 slicks we found for cheap. Our plan is to attempt to squeeze those onto a stock sized wheel and run those all next season. We'll see if it'll work or not.
