DIY: Painting Door Pulls (100% pictorial)
question..
i recently just bought two cans of the fabric and vinyl paint and plastic adhesive primer, i am going to attempt to paint everything silver in my car.
will the paint wear off? without a clear or protective coat on top?

So far It's been 3 months since I've done mine and it has zero wear. My cousin did his dash with the light blue a few years ago and still hasn't had any fading, so you're probably fairly safe. I do have really dark tint though. I figure worst-case scenario, I might have to repaint after a year or two, but considering it still looks like I did it yesterday and it's three months later, I think it'll last a lot longer than that. I can tell you it's more durable than the crap finish Nissan uses, that's for sure!
One thing though. I wouldn't go near that plastic adhesive primer if I were you. I tried using a plastic adhesive primer on the first parts I painted and it didn't have a smooth finish and the fabric and vinyl coating didn't want to stick to the primer.
Just make sure you use the exact product I showed in the DIY, Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric Coating, and be sure to sand all the factory finish off.
Actually, if you're doing the center console too, if you wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol, it'll take most of the factory finish off for you.
If you need any more help, don't hesitate to ask

I've never used the rustoleum stuff, always duplicolor. And the duplicolor is VERY different from any type of "paint" I've ever used. It's almost like spraying ink... really weird, but it works nicely. If I were you, I would try and get the duplicolor. The rustoleum may do fine, IDK. I guess if you used it and didn't like it, you could always sand it off and start over.
Also, you said you got gloss? That gloss will be a little shiny, but won't look anywhere near the "Piano Black" finish that Heist did. I picked up the duplicolor in a satin finish because it's a very nice subtle, OEM type look.

ya, thats what i thought. the spray can gloss paint will be a little more glossy but not real GLOSSY. so it might be a little in between. since i cant decide between gloss and flat ha this could work. guess we will see..
I would start with a door pull. They're the easiest part to get off, and the easiest to re-sand and start over if you decide you don't like the finish.
^Actually, I did my console as well. I'm not done with it, still have to get a black shift **** and a DD kit, but it doesn't look cheesy at all.
