(*'-')b n00bie to suspension and alignment w00t!

i have my car lowered with tein type cs dampers. looks like my front inside tires are both feathering. the tire shop says i need to change my tires. i'm not too familiar with suspension mods and alignment issues. do i need to get camber kit, blah blah, etc. there's gotta be a reason why my camber is all messed up. can someone enlighten me, or the community, with how changing ride height can affect alignment and what things we need to buy to make our tires last? thanks =)

Tire feathering is a source of great debate in the Z community as to it's cause and prevention. More people that have spoken up in that debate do suspect front toe settings more then the other idea's. And that's a adjustment that the car has without buying aftermarket parts.

You may still want to purchase front and rear alignment parts. But without knowing where your car check's out alignment wise right now, it's kinda hard to send you down a road that will cost money, maybe serious money. Knowing how low your set at with the CS coilovers would work, as well as knowing if you drive a coupe or a sedan. Basically you would simply take a tape measure and measure the distance from the top of each wheelwell arch down the the ground. Also knowing your tire sizes front/rear is a good idea. Post back with the measurements or alignment resluts.

How many miles do you have on the CS coilover setup? How many miles on the tires?

If you do in fact need to buy parts I do have a thread in mind to help you, but without knowing if the parts are even really needed I don't see the point over loading you with too much information.

In general coup's droped to .8" and beyond cannot align back to oem factory specs.

gsedan,

i got an 03.5 dg coupe. i actually bought the car from a previous owner and he bought the cs dampers. i'm pretty sure when i asked him before, he had the car lowered 1.0"+ front and rear. i think he's put over 15k miles on the dampers also. my tire sizes are 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rears on piaa super rozza wheels.

i'm not too sure what alignment results are. i hope this info helps =)

Well at a 1" drop your not going to be within oem alignment specs. That bring's you to the decision process of, "am I out of spec enough to justify the cost of the parts and the cost to install them"? Only you can answer that. Some owner's will accept front inner tire wear for the sake of avoiding the cost of new front upper arms and just take care of the rear only.

For the front I would either go with the Cusco front arms ($389) or contact SPL and see if they have their new front kit in stock (@$500). For the rear, I recommend the SPC kit with camber arms and elongated toe cam bolts.

Here's the link to the thread I mentioned earlier, go to post number 10.

Ken I know you've got aftermarket sway bars, it was my experience that their greater roll control played a direct part in helping limit front inner tire wear. I don't think she has aftermarket sway's, though I could be wrong. I'm totally for aggresive camber especially in the front, but I try to stay neutral as best I can.

^^ very true.

and yes, i do run the stillen sways (front soft and rear firm setting)
which is a dramatic difference in the amount of roll during turns, so
that could be a big factor as you mentioned.

so i'm wondering now.....i know for different people they might want to set their camber a little more positive or more negative for cornering. are these people who do aggressive tuning of camber trading off between good cornering and tire wear? because ideally, if u lower your car, there's more load on your a-arms right so the (only front tires?) tires tilt inwards. that makes sense to me. so now if i get a camber kit, wouldn't it be ideal to set the tires exactly aligned, straight so the tire wear would be very very even? i mean toyo's are exactly very cheap. but i guess people who are into tracking and taking hard corners on the streets might tradeoff between good cornering and tire wear right?
