Front brake job @ Infiniti of Tampa

Went this morning to get my brakes checked, i've had a little squealing for a while. Last time i had them checked was at Lokey Infiniti and my pads were at 5mm front, so under the warranty, 3mm or less, did not replace back in April of this year. Today they were at just under 3mm and my rotors have to be replaced since they cannot be cut. They quoted me $560 + tax for the front end only. Broke down as such:
$138 per rotor (this is an 03 sedan so non-brembo)
$57 for brake pads
two hours labor @ $90 an hour.

Went online found stock rotors for $73.58 a piece and brake pad set for $44 and change. I only type this because i'm a little frustrated because i kept going to the dealer to make sure i had the pads and rotors checked while i was still under the 3 yr/36000 miles warranty for the brakes. Back in July last year i had 7mm left, april this year 5mm and all of a sudden less than 3mm when i'm already over 36k and my driving habits did not change at all. I was hoping to build the history because i do my service every 7000k for using synthetic oil, so at least to hopefully back track it to before the 36k. Not sure if anyone has experienced that before but i just find it a little shady.

i do my service every 7000k for using synthetic oil,

In side the maximum for warranty [7500 miles or 6 months] but because of the small volume [for a 3.5 V6] not necessarily optimum for extreme longevity.

How much does it use between changes?

I find it wierd that they cover pads at all period but just a marketing ploy to shut up complainers..........performance brakes EAT PADS FAST.

I've been paying for pads every 20-25k since 1990 [Q45 with 310,000 miles], just something you budget for like tires and shocks and gasoline.

The 2003 eats rotors and pads pretty quick. Save yourself some money and get a BBK. You will more than pay for it with all the rotors and pads that you will go thru. I went thru front rotors every 30K miles, pads every 40K. Lawsuit against Nissan North America paid for the Willwood BBK up front.

If you can't get it done under warranty, then go the DIY route with quality replacement pad/rotors.
Otherwise find a GOOD indpendent shop, it will still be cheaper than a dealership.

I don't mind doing the work, i can change the rotors and pads, but i was purposely going to the dealer to make sure i had it done under them. I was shopping for a BBK a while back but something happened that i had to divert those funds to something else.

Cato, what lawsuit are you referring to? pm me if you need to because i'm curious as to what it was about. I was just hoping to get this set under warranty and then my next set would most likely be aftermarket rotors and pads. Thanks for the responses.

Isn't the warranty for 03/04s 3 year/36K whichever comes first for the brakes? After that, you are on your own. I am having my 04 checked out
this Wednesday. Hopefully I can get a new set out of them. Still on the original with 20K miles, but my 3 years is up on the 24th.

I thought everyone knew about the Class Action lawsuit I won? A couple of years ago some lawyer was trolling around for information about 2003-2004 G35s brake wear issues. I sent him my reciets showing rotors/pads were replaced every 30K miles up front. The lawyers brought a Class Action against Nissan North America stating that the brake wear devalued the $30,000+ cars that we bought. The California Judge threw out the Class Action portion of the lawsuit, but awarded the 4 plaintifs (including myself) $2500 damages. of course the lawyers got $15,000 a piece. I took that money and bought the ArizonaZCar Wilwood BBK for the fronts and replaced the ****ty OEM rear rotors and pads with Stillen slotted rotors and metal matrix pads, I also bought the StopTech SS rear brake lines. I like it all very much!

Interesting. But now the lawyers are paid off and Infiniti covers the older models with a limited warranty, it's probably too late for the rest of us buying older models.
Your hardware sounds good!

I remember you mentioning the lawsuit when we were looking at the AZ wilwood BBK a few months back I just didn't know the details about it. Good on ya to stick it to the man! But since that happened, the rest of us are screwed under their 3yr/36k warranty for 03/04 models. Oh well, i already put the order in for new stock rotors and pads, came up to $220 shipped and i'll provide the labor on that one. Thanks for the responses.
