Am I doing it wrong? I connected the ground to the frame, and I prodded each opening with my test light to see if it would come on. I did this without the key turned.

I used the same method, except with the key turned and the lights on, to find the acc power and illumination from the heated seat switches.

I've got an 03 6MT, if it matters.

Thats odd. I wish I had a car apart here at the shop so I could tell you which wire it is. But I know for a fact that there is a constant power source from behind the hazard switch. You are testing it correctly, with the key off and out of the ignition. There for sure is a source there, because you can use your hazard lights with the key out.

How are your probing the connector? Try unplugging the connector and probing it from the front at its contact points.
