Cross-drilled or slotted Brembo rotors ?
Cross-drilled or slotted Brembo rotors ?
I'm getting ready to replace my front Brembo rotors/pads (on my 04 Coupe) and I read about cross-drilled and slotted Brembo rotors types.
Which type would you recommend (the price seems to be the same) ?

X-drilled rotor have a tendency to crack when put under higher stresses. Afterall, you have holes in a solid structure.
The rotors that go on the Brembo system have a pillar vane design, meaning there aren't straight vanes, but posts inside of the rotors. I'd be very careful of the drilled rotors on the stock Brembo system. If one of the drill holes is placed right on a pillar, it creates a weak point.

For street driving, I would stick with plain rotors, slotted rotors wont be unsafe or anything, but will create more dust and make more noise as they continuously scrape the pad surface when braking.

Why are you replacing the rotors? They are anything but cheap and work well for all but medium to heavy track use. If you have not resurfaced them and they aren't cracked, put the $$$ to better use. Get the machine shop to cut them and install new pads.

After doing some searches, I found a pair of rotors, either slotted or cross-drilled, to be around $375 which is better than $510 per rotor which is the dealer price. I'm not sure if I need special pads to go with a slotted versus a flat-surface rotor.
Has anybody else bought original Brembo rotors and pads and if so, from where and how much was it ?
