Front Pads for g35 6MT Brembo can Hawk HPS damage rotor?

Hey there, sorry for yet another post on brake pads. I was just about to get my front pads changed - and I asked my shop to order the HAWK HPS. They called me and said the place they get parts from said "you know the Hawks have been known to damage the front rotors." Has anyone heard of this before? And while we are at it - let's open the floor to suggestions on front pads for Brembo . . .

I do a short daily commute in traffic - I live in Atlanta so it also rains here. I do want to cut down on the dust at least a little . . .

At first it seemed like people raved about the HAWK HPS pads, but more recent posts seem to say that stopping distance is hurt. I have not seen anyone say anything about rotor damage though.

Thanks and good driving,

I went with the HPS pads and changed them myselves thanks to the helpful DIY's on this forum. I got them for $173 shipped for front and rear and it included brake fluid.

I've never heard of rotor damage from Hawks. I think it's just a rumor, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'll probably get new rotors with the next change anyway.

Since you live in ATL you should check out this forum. There are A LOT of guys from there on this forum: wwww.g35frenzy.com It's 1/8 as active as this forum, but you should be able to connect with them pretty well area wise.

2 months worth of driving with HPS pads are equivalent to one week with the oem pads dust wise.

I think it's a matter of preference. Just make sure you use squeal reducer on the shims

Filanj, how would you compare your braking with the Hawk HPS - do you think it is as solid as OEM? What do you think about the posts that say they do not have same initial bite?

Seeking as many viewpoints as possible - everyone, share your experiences!

I installed the HPS brakes on my '04 6 MT coupe a week ago. I bedded the brakes according to Hawk's recommendations.

I don't have a reading yet on the dust generation.

The initial bite seems to be about the same as the OEM brakes -- perhaps just a little softer. I'm interested to see what happens after they've been heated up with some consecutive hard stops -- whether that affects the initial bite.

But, I have tried occasional single (that is, not heated-up) panic-type stops, and they certainly perform well. I have no concerns about their performance in that respect.

(There has been some discussion about the size of these pads. The Hawk catalog shows their specified width to be 119 mm. Mine were almost 121 mm, and didn't fit. So, I milled them down to about 118.5, and they then fit fine. Others have just filed them. You may want to mention this to your shop before they begin, so that they are prepared to shave a little off if necessary, rather than conclude that they have the wrong part.)
