Updated 01/07/10 READ NOW! R1 Concepts brake rotors..RESOLVED!

Update: 01/07/10

It appears that R1concepts' New Years resolution is to refocus on customer service and win back the respect of the G35 community.
Today, Steven; the new sales manager of R1 emailed me to offer me the customer service I deserved almost THREE YEARS AGO! He found this thread and was shocked and embarassed about how I was treated. He was very sincere and positive about how the business will now be run and I am confident that he will run the business with customer service as his #1 priority. After a series of emails, we talked on the phone and he is a really nice guy. Not only will Steven be representing R1 on the forums, he is also a new VQ owner (350z) so hopefully we will be seeing him at some of the local meets.

Please feel free to read the whole story and realize....after almost three years...R1concepts reached out to make things right!

Orginal post below
================================================== ========

I bought the Premium line rotors about 3 months ago. After the first day I had them, they completely rusted. The whole rotor is rusted except for where the pad touches. I sent 5-10 emails to them to complain and only got an auto-response saying that I would be contacted within 48 hours. I was NEVER contacted. I finally had time today to call their "customer service" line to speak to someone. When I told them about all the emails I sent, their resopnse was "we're busy" No apology or anything. When I told him about the problem with the rotors he said, "the warranty doesnt cover rust".
I asked him if it applied to the Premium rotors with have the rust protection and he said, "yup"..then hung up!!!! Can you believe this?
Save yourself the trouble..

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!!!!!

I forgot to mention that when I ordered them, they sent the wrong ones so I had to drive there to exchange them and they refused to refund the shipping charges for the hassle!

I bought mine on ebay and I have not had any rust issues. My car stays in the garage and I rarely drive it when it rains so that may be why also. I have heard of this problem with their rotors on previous posts. What someone suggested was to lightly paint the rotor and where the pads make contact will rub the paint off. I have not tried this but that is what I have read.

Mines rust in the areas where the pads don't make contact but so did my stock and these cost less than stock so it doesn't bother me but if it were the other way around and I paid more for R1 premium rotors than a set of stock I would be highly upset. However like you said that kind of customer service doesn't fly. I think once these wear out I'll go for some Stillen but for now I'm content with getting what I paid for.

I bought their cheaper e-line rotors and haven't had any rusting issues, but that sucks man. I do agree their customer service was subpar, and email response is slow or nonexistent. You are better off calling them....

Well i work for R1 Concepts,No one out of our customers has had problems with rust. Maybe something got on your rotors or the material wasn't good.It doesn't mean u should tell everyone not to buy them. I don't know what happend with customer service. I bought rotors for some friends and they all loved them, with no problems at all. I got mine customized and i have had no problems at all. Other companies are more expensive and outdated style.

Welcome to the 21st century where people freely share information both good and bad all over the internet. Gone are the days when companies could provide unacceptable levels of customer service and not suffer the repercussions. This is a community where enthusiasts look out for one another.

I cant take pics now...these were replaced long ago. I know many people with rust problems on R1's.

Even if my rotors where that "one bad set"...

R1's customer service is the WORST I HAVE EVER RECEIVED IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY and I hope everyone who wants to buy from them reads this first so they will reconsider.

thanks for the link to www.consumerist.com

here is the only old pic I could find. This pic actually makes the rotor look good. In person you can see MUCH more rust.
