Replacement shocks?

Though Tokico makes the OEMs for Nissan, the closest aftermarket Tokico is the HP and it is supposed to be slightly harder in ride than OEM. Tire Rack advises KYB Excel-G is the way to go for OEM replacement. Of course you could just go OEM.
I thought mine needed replacement at 50K miles, but it turns out they are OK. Just that our roads here in Chicago were badly beaten up by the past winter. Can't understand why shocks shouldn't last to at least 100K car is driven hard.
Whatever you do avoid Koni reds. Used them to replace OEM on a Ford Taurus SHO several years ago, even with stock springs. SHO crashed on every expansion gap like a stage coach over a dry gulley. Even with adjustment to high compliance setting. Had to cut out the brand-new Konis. Went to the OEM Motorcrafts (made by Gabriel) and the civilized ride had returned.
