03-04 factory brakes vs 05+ brakes

As many here already know, the 03-04 factory brakes are pretty bad. While their performance isn't awful, they wear quick, squeal, and produce a lot of dust.

In a recent thread someone mentioned the possibility of upgrading the 03-04 factory brakes to the 05+ factory brakes.

First off, would everything fit properly? What would it all require? Would all the necessities (ABS/VDC/AWD [I have an 05x]) function normally.

Would there be large benefits?

Has anyone ever done this?

Sorry I'm a newb. I have a friend who builds and restores old lotus' so he could help walk me through it...however my knowledge is nil.

Very nice. You post a lot in this section, but I see the threads you are referring to.

Appreciate the help.

Actually it's not in this particular section. I apologize. This is why I hate this general section. Stuff gets posted here when it should be in the brake specific section. should answer most if not all of your questions

i upgraded mine.. my car is an 04 so it had the single piston brakes up front originally. I got my hands on a set of practically brake set up from a 2006 350z. they bolt right up... no mods needed except you may have to cut the rear dust guard that goes around the rear rotors.

I also upgraded to cross drilled & slotted rotors along with Hawk HPS brake pads at the same time. the performance difference is very noticeable in a positive way. braking feels much more confident now and the pedal has a much nicer-softer feel

Thanks Jeff. I finally got a chance to read through your thread. It all seems straight forward aside from taking the lip off the dust guard and bleeding the brake fluid.

If I can't get my friend to help me with it, are there professionals that would go as far as trimming the dust guard and putting in the entire brake system?

Are these parts only available used?

Are those the stock brakes or the brembos?

Has anyone tried this on the 05 g35x? AWD system still function properly?

Very interested in making this swap myself, but what parts are needed? Just new calipers, pads and rotors? Is the caliper mounting bracket also replaced (and thus needed for the swap)?

I wonder if the +05 front calipers bulges out more than the 03-04's?...as much or close to the way front oem brembo's bulges out?

I guess what i'm asking is, would aftermarket wheels made to clear +05 calipers will clear oem brembo's as well?
