Rear wheel bearing - anyone installed by themselves?
Well my driver's side wheel bearing crapped out. There is play on the wheel when I lifted the car up.
According to the blow-up of the parts involved, it doesn't look TOO BAD of an install. However, just wanted some input before I tackle this. Anyone done this before? How long would it take? Any specialized tools I will need?
Also, I've read I will need to press the new bearings into the hub, then install onto the axles... to minimize extra work, can I purchase an already pressed bearing into the hubs (as a kit)?
thanks in advance.

You can buy the hub assembly which includes new bearings, wheel studs and hub ready to bolt on but they are not cheap. I think they were around $220 per side from Infinity. To replace the whole hub you remove the tire, brakes, rotor, and undo the four bolts to release the whole assembly. You will need a thin walled socket to get at all the bolts.
I haven't done the rear ones yet and they may be more difficult, the front ones are easy.

The rear wheel bearing isnt to bad to reach// its actually a bolt on hub/
you will need to remove the axle nut, hit the axle in with a dead blow hammer far in enough so you can reach the rear hub bolts/
your goin to need and extension and swivel 17mm socket// /one of the bolts
is kinda tricky to get to , but with some patience youll be good.

I would suggest buying the whole hub assembly. When you press the bearings from the wheel hub you risk reshaping the hub then when pressed into the new bearing it won't sit properly.

This applies to front and rear wheels. I'll warn that it is harder then you expect to tell the difference between front versus rear noise. Wheel bearings in early stages of failing can sound kind of like a helicopter. Later stages it will growl and even sound like metal to metal scraping - like when brake pad is warn to metal backing so steel against steel grinding noise. Wheel bearing noise can be intermittent, louder at certain speeds and nearly silent at other speeds. In a turn the inner wheel carries lighter load so if the inner wheel has a bad bearing the sound might stop.
be sure to check the axle nut and make it is not loose.
i thought my wheel bearing had crapped out, but turned out to be a loose axle nut.
32 mm deep socket is required to tighten it.
