Repetitive Question,But need an answer
04 35x 160k no warranty left, experiencing loud road noise and vibration more pronounced when turning in either direction. Tried to remedy the noise and vibration by rotating tires from front to back in case tires tire went out of balance. Tire wear looks normal about 15k on eagle rsa's & stock rims. This was no remedy. While car was up on jacks checked to see if bearings had any play. I had zero movement in the 12 and 6 position. Next replaced the rotors and did a brake job. no fix there. I checked the axle shaft by turning by hand and it seems to have a little play in it. After reading the many post on hub assemblies all the sysymtoms point to the bearings. Is it possible to have bad bearings even if there is no play in the hub or is my problem the axle assembly. Bearings are around $170 apiece and I found the whole axle assembly around $500 each side. Both are costly was hoping someone might be able to help?
With most Infiniti's you get to totally replace everything every 150-180k except maybe the engine. It seems your 6 years has included a lot of driving, even interstates are rough enough to take out bearings.
We replace lots of bearings front and rear.
How many sets of shocks and rotors have you gone thru? Trying to gauge your various sensitivities to problems.

I have gone thru four sets of rotors in the front and two sets in the rear, and 1 front caliper that froze several years ago. I usually replace the pads at least once a year. Shocks are O.E.M and haven't been replaced. I get about 35k on the goodyear rsa's and then they are replaced. Replaced the compression rods about 6 months ago and then brought it to the dealership for an alignment. The front end was checked and everything was fine. The car rode great until recently. No mods only an md spacer.
I have to change the oil every six weeks. Your right alot of interstate driving but in the northeast and the roads are terrible. I had no vibration and no noise until recently. Any help?

Just a follow up post, After ordering the wheel bearings and specifically asking if they were for the 04 g35x awd application received the wrong part. Shipped part back still waiting for the refund. lol, Disparaged and fed up and not wanting to go back to the infiniti dealership because of some bad experiences, I took the car to a local Nissan dealership and had the wheel bearing replaced and a alignment done. Car rides great and at a fraction of the cost of what I would have had to spend at Infiniti.
At T3 ATL since 1995 we have worked on nothing but Infiniti and Lexus at 3 locations around town. I had my Q for 19.5 years and 323k so I am very familiar with replacing things multiple times.
Actually the G35 is very good [due to lighter weight and less torque] about wearing things out. I've gone thru 6 sets of shocks and tension rods plus 8 sets of upper links. Replace differential and drive shaft on 110K on 3rd transmission.
All in all I've spent ~~ $45,000 in mainteances and repairs which averaged out to $2250 per year but some peak years were $6,000.
When I began T3 we charged $45 per hour and now $90 hr obviously the dealer labor rate would have added $10,000 to the costs.
You can buy parts frpm Scottsdale Infiniti for 20-25% off + shipping so with a lower labor rate you can save 30-35%.

My sedan is 5 years old and has 84K on it. I still have the original wheel bearings and sway end links. I have replaced the brakes three times, not because they were worn, but because I WANTED to (drilled rotors, EBC Green Stuff pads (don't), then Hawk HPS (do!)). I have had no problems to speak of with this car. I have the original clutch and I have done the Raging Bull Texas Stampede four times. I love this car.

My original post was for verification of a bad wheel bearing without any axle play or could it have been something else? I understand it is hard to help someone to diagnose problems site unseen. I was just trying to save a buck before replacing a part which might not be bad. Sometimes its a pita trying to get the right parts for an awd since a lot of the distributors list thier applications for g35 base and x applications. Only to get the wrong part. Believe me I have replaced a lot of parts just because of the wear and tear over time and mileage and most of the problems started after a 100k mileage. It started with the dreaded oil seepage into the #6 spark plug tube discovered when changing the plugs out. Since then have experienced many of the problems sited on this thread ex. moving front seat, sound from the dash, p0455 dtc, compression rods. Of course this all occurs after the extended warranty expires. Thanks to all the people who post thier questions and answers there is wealth of information available. I gotta give kuddos to Tom Hesser Nissan Dealership in Scranton Pa. $328.00 for front bearing installation part $250.00 labor $75.00 for 1hr.
My point was the first 100k or even 200k is a cakewalk easy and inexpensive.
Just because someone skips the necessary mainteances and repairs they just pile and pile up. You cannot escape the consequences or expense.
Most vehicles are resold because the owner get a list of $3,000 in needed repairs, not understanding that the quoter was actually under quoting to try to get business.
Actually the vehicle might need $6,000 instead of the $3,000 quote.........they don't want to scare typical uneducated[on vehicles] away.
We do hundreds of used car prebuy inspections per year they all need work even the pretty pristine polished detailed ones with the new cheap replacement tires and battery.
$75 per hour for a dealer is extremely fair but Scanton is atypical for NE.
