Brakes Rotors Red Hot

This is not on a G35 but most braking systems are the same. I helped a co-worker change his pads and got a rear rotor machined on his chevy pickup. Now he says that when he drives it his rear rotors turn a glowing red. what could cause them to heat up that much?

maybe you turned them too much so there is not enough metal to dissipate the heat quickly? not sure

It would be almost impossible to get that much heat in the rear rotors unless the pads are dragging badly. Are the rear calipers self-adjusting? Some rear rotors you actually have to adjust out with a screw.

callipers didnt look like anything special, just a single floating style, used the c-clamp with old brake pads to reset it for new pads..

Well somehow or another I would bet good money the brakes are dragging.

the pads could possibly not be set all the way in the calipers?

About the dragging... I had the brakes a bit seized on one of the wheels and they dragged. There was more heat around that wheel than the rest, but still nothing close to glowing. My logic is saying, if they are dragging SO bad to cause them to glow, then you ought to feel it when you're actually driving the car... as in, the moment you let go off the gas, you feel dramatic slowing down without applying the brakes; does your co-worker feel that?. I didn't experience that with the dragging I had.

seized calipers or whoever put on the rear brakes did not compress the piston enough before putting the pads on
