I doubt that's the case. You have to remember that in your pics the springs have absolutely no compression off the car. Once placed under the weight of the vehicle, the springs are likely compressed below the rod on the shock. That's just my guess though, and I'm certainly no suspension expert.

On another note, thanks Joker for posting that review. Wish you had decent OEMs prior to the swap to give a better comparo. I've always wondered how the HPs compared to stock and I'll prob switch my OEMs with 40k on them to the HPs when I put my 350z s-techs on the car. Now I'm just struggling to know if I should go with the G35 HPs or 350z HPs.

I read somewhere that front D-spec series struts are same for G35 and 350Z.
Rears are shorter for the 350Z

I don't know if that applies to the HPs, I would assume it does but that's just the assumption.

Go with the G35 HPs. I have a coupe lowered on df210's. It rode just like stock with OEM shocks, but when I changed them to the 350Z shocks and struts, it tightened up the ride almost too much.

The HP G35 shocks are about 30% stiffer than stock OEM. The 350Z HPs make the ride too jarring in my opinion

so you say you have an 05 coupe with sport suspension, so i guess you originally had the 19" forged alloys. however, i always thought the rear shocks on an 05 coupe with the factory sports suspension were red in color.

Unless confirmed from the lips of tokico's tech department as in "Ray", any numbers coming from any reseller are suspect and speculative at best.

I think you mispoke saying "HP G35 shocks are stiffer". Only thing I've seen floated (and unconfirmed as mentioned) is that the Z HP fitment is 30% stiffer. Which doesn't make sense since I have 2003-2004 oem 350Z shock dyno's. If you made shocks that were 30% stiffer then those, let's just say that would not be a smart move. I also have a shock dyno for the 2005 revised 350Z in the rear, it has less rebound. Don't see that being bumped up either. And why would this all happen to the HP, it's their basic shock.

First time I hear about red OEM shocks.

My coupe is 05 with sport susp and it did came with 19" wheels from the factory, but I never seen no red shocks on it.

05 sedan here with the sport suspension and red shocks. A local friend has an 04 Nismo sedan with the same set up.

Just replaced mine with the Z version of the HPs this past weekend. I had and still have unrevised Z springs to pair up with them. The ride is certainly stiffer than before on the OEMs with 50k miles but I would not describe it as jarring. Feels much more precise and predictable. My OEM rears on my auto 06 sedan w/ sports package were not red.

Joker, did you notice that the stock struts and shocks have tokico engraved in them? Mine did, and I was wondering, maybe the tokico black shocks/struts are part of the sport suspension package?

I think I understand what your asking. All oem G and Z shocks are manufactuered by Tokico. Shock color is meaningless on coupes since they are all colored black. The only way a coupe has a legit sports suspension is to have been a 2005 or latter model and was delivered from the factory on oem 19" wheels.

2003 to I believe 2005 sedan's with the sport suspension have red colored shocks. We've been getting conflicting reports of 2006 sedan's with the sport suspension having black colored shocks, honestly don't know if that also extends to 2005 cars.
