Can't reattach compression rod after installing ES bushings

I just can't get the rod low enough to screw in the ball joint to the hub. I have the other end attached btw. I have tried pushing down on the rod and jacking up the hub. I also tried to lift the hub up more by Unbolting the sway bar link and damper. HOW DO I GET THE ROD BACK ON? Thank you.

I got it by loosely attaching the outer compression rod to the knuckle. Then I used a jack to push up the inner rod onto the large stud. I placed the jack just next to the bushing and had to move it around a little as I went along to get the bushing to slide in properly.
