Just took my G in to my local dealership for my yearly service and was told that the compression rods and bushings need to be replaced and gave me a $1,100+ bill to fix it. I told them that I'd look into it before committing anything.

I've been out of the forum for awhile and modding the G, but did want to explore aftermarket options if I can confirm that I need to replace the compression rods and bushings. Can anyone provide some guidance on aftermarket options for the above fix that would be more economical or provide better adjustability/performance?

My current set up is as follows:

2004 G35 Coupe 6MT

Front:
19x8.5 /w 245/35/R19

Rear:
19x9.5 /w 275/35/R19

All original OEM suspension. I'm in Fairfax, VA so I'll probably take it into Curry's Auto to get a second opinion.

Post a pic of the bushing. If its torn, spl and energy suspension make replacement bushings

 

^^So does Whiteline. Buy a set of replacement bushings and take them to a reputable shop, preferably not the dealer. Have them press the old bushings out, the new ones in, and re-install the rods. Shouldn't be more than a couple of hours at the most and should cost you less than $250 total.

 

OP do you know if the ball joints on the compressions rods are bad? If the ball joints are shot, you will have to replace the whole compression rod and it will come with the oem bushing.

If just the bushings are torn than I suggest looking at poly aftermarket ones from Whiteline or Energy Suspension as mentioned.

 

I am planning to take it to another shop for a second opinion and have them show me the compression rods and bushings so I can get a visual. Sounds like I need to confirm if it is just the bushings or both that I have to replace. I'll take some pics and post.
