Brembo Brakes Installation 06 G35 coupe

I have been wanting to buy new brakes because cosmetically I like the way the Brembo brakes looks over the stock. I don't NEED them because my G is my daily driver but I am willing to throw some unnecessary money at my car just so that I am pleased with the way that it looks.
I don't want to get those fake plastic covers, so I was wondering If I can just buy the Brembo brakes and install them with my stock rotors, or do I have to shell out the money for the whole package.

Willing to buy used.
How much should I expect to pay for just the brakes? For the whole package (brakes and roots, if necessary)?

How much should I expect to pay for installation?

I currently reside in the Long Beach, CA area.

Thanks

You should try looking at wrecking yards for gs and zs with brembos. Maybe that will be a lower cost option.

Find a Nissan shop. Google the forum for this swap. It's been covered many times.

It's my opinion that $1k for a set is a good price, but maybe that's too low these days.

You will not be able to use the rotors off your car. Definitely will have to shell out money for new rotors and pads. Check out prices from vendors here or you could check out autoanything.com as well! Also you should upgrade to SS lines if you could. GL and IMO totally worth it. Oh yeah its a pretty simple job and I am sure there is a DIY on it.

My advice would be to eyeball the parts marketplace on here AND my350z. You will need new pads and rotors, but, in all honesty, those can be had rather inexpensively. The calipers are the high dollar part of the equation. And do yourself a favor, while you're under there, grab some ss brake lines. they're cool and for like $77 bux, why not, right?

Just did the conversion a few months ago, 1k for calipers, another $500 for brembo blanks and pads. SS lines were $130. Installed myself so can't say how much installation will cost you. Mines my daily driver as well but I love how much better it stops. Downside is it dusts a whole lot more than stock setup.

NEW Nissan or infiniti akebono, adapters, rotors and pads. Much better option than used brembos and if you dig around and used vendor discounts. You can possibly piece it together cheaper than the bundled packages. Prices will range from $1400-$1800. If you want fluid and stainless steel lines along with drilled/slotted expect to pay on the higher end. I would go with centric stoptech stainless lines, centric cryo powerslot rotors but not drilled just plain slots. Stoptech pads and pickup the calipers along with brackets. Read the reviews on various brackets and use sewell g35driver discount or courtesyparts my350z discount for calipers.

^"better" in what way? If you check over on my350z, many there have come to the conclusion that brembo's perform much better as a bbk than akebonos

Better as in value for what you get, new versus used. You are paying $1000 for calipers alone for a used set with 50 thousands miles on them. You have no idea of their condition and factor in the price of rebuilding calipers. A set of calipers and brackets run you very close to what a brembo with fresh powder coat, pads, and rebuild will run you.

Looks at the size difference between them. You are comparing 14" rotors on Akebono to the 12" rotors on the brembo. You can go one step further and get 14" 2 piece rotors to loose some weight.

There are plenty of rebuild diy's around, it isn't that difficult nor expensive. And size doesn't matter, just because the akebono is reasonably large doesn't mean it performs as well as the brembo's in the conditions they were designed for

So whats the verdict here? All the ladies say size does matter.... so is it Akebono for the win or what?

The answer...it depends.

If you're tracking the car, then yes, size does matter, up to a point. Larger calipers plus larger rotors = better heat dissipation, = more thermal capacity and thus less brake fade. Means you can stay out on the track longer. However, all that bigger brake stuff also adds unsprung weight, which can carry with it other compromises in braking and handling.

If you're on the street and under most normal driving conditions, then size does not matter as much. Larger calipers and rotors will not reduce your stopping distances, at least for the first several stops.
