4,000 dollar estimate from Dealership!?

Ok, I have a G35x which has been knocking around a bit up front around the suspension. Figured some tie rod ends/ball joints/etc. They take it in for an inspection. And they give me an estimate for over 4 grand to fix the car. The parts list is as follows, the parts alone were around 2,500 because they said they could only order from Infiniti since it's AWD and there were no aftermarket parts.

RF CV AXLE
LF/RF Spindle
LF/RF Lower Control Arm
LF/RF Control Arm Support

any suggestions? aftermarket parts? etc.?

I'm taking it in Thursday to local shop with that list to have a second opinion.

The dealership said they called O'Reilly and they couldn't get any aftermarket parts for it and same with my buddy who works at Napa in Dallas/Ft Worth area

Yeah, that's why I said rockauto. If they don't have it Infiniti is probably telling the truth. And, no the rwd parts won't fit.

I just went thru a similar thing with my buddy. He drives an 07 ms3 and the driver side CV axle is a 30 spline axle instead of a 28 spline (like the passenger side, and both sides of the regular Mazda 3 wagon). His car was on jack stands for 2 weeks trying to track down this part that the dealer didn't even have. Finally he listened to me and got it from rockauto. basically what I'm saying is they have pretty much anything that's available. Well beyond autozone/O'Reilly/pep boys, etc.

If you can't find it there, it's probably not being sold elsewhere. I'd keep looking tho.

Also, look for just the bushing of the control arms. That's most likely the part thats bad. Not the arm itself.

Here's some info that may help you on your journey. I have a coupe so I don't know very much about the AWD sedan but these links may help you out.

I'd also advise that unless the parts bent or otherwise damaged, just replace the bushings (several write-ups regarding your options on those).

By spindle, are you referring to the WHOLE knuckle assembly? And what exactly is a control arm "support"? Just a control arm?

I'd like to see photos of what they are telling you needs replacing. Did you hit something? HARD?

^ yeah, I'd also like to know exactly what they're wanting to replace (pictures). $4k is a lot of freaking money for parts that you can get for a rwd car for around $500 for everything.

Posted the invoice. As for hitting something hard, the first time I noticed it started to knock slight was a few month ago after I hit a pot hole in a friends driveway (going about 2-3 mph) and it just got gradually worse and the other side started to knock as well just recently (within last few weeks)

Hopefully this will help.

Here's the "knuckle spindle" assemblies:

http://grubbsinfinitiparts.com/nissa...&siteid=216759

I have no idea why you would need the WHOLE assembly (40014/40015).

Here's the suspension portion:

http://grubbsinfinitiparts.com/nissa...&siteid=216759

I'd be tempted to print these, take them up to the dealership and have them clarify wtf they are wanting you to buy. Notice that the LCA is listed as "link...transverse" and there is NO "support" listed.

Again, knocking and clunking is typically bushings...so just replace those. I'd assume they are wanting you to buy the ENTIRE piece for just the bushing/ball joint. The only ball joint that can't be replaced with a new one is the one in the compression rod. You need to buy a whole new unit for that and from what I've read, replacement compression rods for 2wd are silver vs. AWD which are black. If you need/want to replace the ball joint in the compression rods, you HAVE to buy new rods...and I'd go ahead and have the OEM bushings pressed out of the brand new ones and replaced with Whiteline or ES before you install them.

as for the control arm, a lot of times it just the bushings, however the dealer will not replace just the bushings. much cheaper.

I'm going to assume all the bushings are junk and Infiniti is just replacing the entire spindle and control arm instead.

Unfortunately, those parts are dealer only being AWD.
