Good evening everyone, Im in the process of rebuilding my rack/pinion however I'm at a crossroad.
Upon research I found Infinity sells two seal kits for this vehicle however there is a big difference that is not so clear other that pricing.
There is the:
49297AM625 at $117+ship
4929710v89 at $46 + ship
Now online there are generic images of what these look like and unfortunately dont provide the sufficient info for me to make a decision.
Only difference I was able to see is the AM625 ranges from 2004-2007 includes base and X called Seal Kit-Housing, Power Steering Gear
The V89 ranges from 2005-2007 only, its also for base and X called Seal Kit-Rack, Power Str Gear
Im really only looking for the seals around the shaft being that its where it's leaking. Any help is appreciated.
PS: Im not going to bother using seal sweller etc. Replacing is the most cost effective option for me at this point being that the car is down.
I'd call the manufacturer and ask, I'm pretty sure the 2003-2007 coupe and 2003-2006 sedan were all physically interchangeable as an entire unit but the R&P were different based on the package the vehicle was equipped with:
-Sedan w/o AWD w/o performance package
-Sedan WITH performance package
-Coupe WITH RAS
-Coupe w/o RAS
Well, it looks like I will be buying an aftermarket kit and see how that goes. Will try to take as many pictures as possible.
Just got a response from an online dealer and Infiniti doesn't make these kits anymore because of the year of the car. The fix is not that difficult as long as you have the correct parts. Normally when the rack starts leaking there's a number of components already leaking that will need to be replaced also along with the alignment however at this point this will be my only option I have to give the kit a try.
OEM r&p are still available but they're very expensive ($1000+) if I was going to purchase a rebuild I would just have CZP do it since I trust their work, not sure what the turnaround time is though. Apparently I was wrong about the 4 different vehicles but they are listed on the CZP page. If you still have questions about the kit you might call them and ask them about purchasing the rebuild kit that they use.
Both those seal kits are available from amayama.com. $80 for the first one, $23 for the second. International E-Packet shipping 11-18 days with tracking about $10, no duty because under $200. My experience with my one order from them -- it came more quickly.
Well, this rebuild took a turn. Apparently old owner loved stop leak/seal sweller because this was what the rack looked like after opening it.
Unfortunately taking this gunk off will increase play, looks like I'll have to source another rack. I heard the 350z rack interchanges with some of our cars, is this true? if so any specifics like year and trim?
