Ugh Compression Rod Gone Wrong

Was working on my G and replacing the front wheel bearings, rotors, pads, and rebuild a caliper. Noticed the lower ball joint in the compression rod was shot and grease was gone, so I started the removal with the passenger side. Nut wouldn't budge and used heat, impact, and everything else available. It's now round off really bad, so I been trying to chisel it off with an air hammer, but now I am waiting for a straight chisel bit to arrive. Also, snapped two of the 14MM sub frame bolt head off when taking it apart. I really hate rust!

Hoping I can get both nuts off and then will probably have to rethread the stud, but I am praying the stud can survive the beatings.

Yea, it's been frustrating! So, I took a day or two off to gather my thoughts and I decided to pick up a die or pencil grinder tomorrow. Hopefully, I can cut that nut off without too much hassle. Then have to fight with the other side and the fact the bushings are probably rusted in place. Will have to rethread this stud at least I can see some dings on it from trying to get the nut off.

Noticed a pretty decent oil leak near the bell housing and engine. But, I know my plug is leaking and I could see oil all over the back of the valve covers. Going to replace the cam/crank seals, VTC, and valve cover gaskets.

I definitely want to pick up a welder and oxy/acy torch and start learning how to do that. MAPP gas isn't cutting it anymore when trying to get things off.

Also, I see a lot of rust bubbles on the lower passenger door, so I might make my first attempt to fix that or at least clean it up.

Use the chisel and try to cut just the NUT in half. You can also take a sawzall and cut about 90% of the nut off so there's a lot less material to cold chisel through. Also take the sawzall and slice the nut from the top at an angle. It's really tight but I usually use the power tools to soften up the work a bit so you aren't chiseling as much.

Gear Wrench makes some excellent and inexpensive cold chisels btw.

Brought it to my mechanic and he had to torch the nut off and there wasn't too much damage. He had to order a die though, since the threads were messed up. I didn't want to rush causing anymore damage, so the G beat me this time!
