Should I buy a G35 now???
Alright so heres my dilemma. In October of 2006 some lady ran a red light and crashed into my 03 SVT Focus. That car was the world to me as it was my first car and it was completely destroyed although I was fine. Instead of buying a new car right after the accident, we decided to wait until the insurance money came in, and after we got that getting the car kept getting delayed for different reasons. Plus my mom got a new car previous to my accident and we hadn't sold her 01 ML430 so I'm driving that in the meantime. I decided that I want to get a G35, but being 18, I have to get my parents consent in getting one because they are going to be cosigning with me and paying for my insurance.
My problem is that my dad doesn't think i need such a nice car, being that it is my second car and I'm going to be going to college in Santa Barbara and the main reason for getting the car would be to go two and from campus twice a month (~150 miles each way). I do think that I will be driving around town a little bit, but probably not much. My parents are also telling me that the paint will get ruined since I'm going to be so close to the ocean, and that I'll get a lot of dings from other people in the parking lot.
I'm also going to be out of the country for the majority of the summer, so I was contemplating waiting for a while after I return to let the price drop a little bit so I can get a better deal or just buying one right when i get back.
So my dad keeps going back and forth about if I should get the car or if I need to compromise more. The way I see it these are my options. I can get the G35 right after my trip even though i kind of agree with my dad that I don't really need a car that nice for college, I can drive the ML for like two more years (even though I HATE driving it), let the price of the G go down and snap one up then, or I can get a decent car now and then after college is over get a nice car then.
Thanks for listening to my problem I realize that I typed up so much but my whole situation is just really bothering me right now and I want to see what other people think
So my questions to you are
1) Is now the right time for me to get a G
2) How much do you think the price will drop after the G37 comes out?

in answer to your questions:
1. no. Both you and your dad pretty much agree you dont need it.
2. It may and it may not.
That being said, go out and get one, which ever color you like. Since you've made it to this site, go take a look at the Forced Induction section and read up on Vortech Super Chargers and follow that up with the Brake and Suspension section to be able to handle your new found power.
Your moms right about dents and dings but thats ok too. Most body shops wont charge too much to clean your new ride up. The important thing (other than not driving off a cliff
) is not how much money you spend on a depreciating asset but how much fun you had and all the people you supported along the way.

I went to UCSB (hence my username) and lived in IV for 4 years. I had a beater 1990 Accord and was glad I did not have a nice car. While being parked in the street, it was hit twice, some drunk douchebag knocked my passenger side mirror off and best of all, I had a used condom stuck to my windshield one morning. If you plan to live in IV, don't drive anything nice unless you are one of the few lucky ones to have a safe parking space. Even then, I only drove my car maybe three times a month, because class, work, beer, and the beach are all within skateboard distance... ahh I miss two-forty Tuesdays...
why would you buy a g35 now.. its like old u have to get the neww shytt man who wants to spend 35k n roll around in something that is going to b old in like 4 months.. be patient save some more money and make the choice wisely..
Well I'm not going to buy a brand new one, my price range is around 25k so I'm looking at probably getting an '04 and maybe an '05 if i wait for a couple months. It's just stuff like UCSBsurfer said is what is making me hesitant in getting the car. Oh well i guess ill just see what happens. Thanks for the input guys.
