Thinking about buying a G. Decisions, decisions.

I'm graduating from college (finally!) in a little over a month. I've been considering getting a new car soon after that, as I'd love a fun, fast car while I don't have a mortgage payment to worry about.

Originally, I was thinking of getting a G37 6MT as I've always absolutely loved the G coupes. But, after some research and finding that the G35 6MT sedan is just as fast, almost as sexy, and quite a bit cheaper. My neighbor just bought a 08 G35x, which I drove for a few minutes and was _very_ impressed.

So, a new G35 would be nice, but it'd cost ~$35k or so. Pretty expensive for someone just coming out of college, I know. Not that I couldn't afford it, as I'll be rent-free (ftw) for a year or two and my expenses will be pretty minimal. I'm just not sure if I want to put away that much of my money to a new car.

Another thing I'm thinking is trying to find a used G35 coupe, ideally '05 or newer. In looking a bit it seems finding 6MT's around here (New Hampshire) will be pretty tough. Plus, in what I'm finding, a this'll cost me $25k-$30k. That upper range is only slightly less expensive than a 08 G35.

Also, one thing I was wondering - is there any chance of getting an 07 G35 sedan (new or used, I don't care) for a bit less than an 08?

Bleh. I'm so undecided and have about 50 million ideas running through my head at all times.

Any thoughts, advice, comments, etc. would be appreciated.

Thanks all!

What about...
1. Buy a used G35
2. Save your money from buying used, and living rent free
3. Make a down payment on your own home in a year or two

You will have a nice car and you will start building equity. With the housing market in a slump it makes perfect sense for someone like yourself to buy now since you don't have to worry about selling an existing home. (I'm assuming you will live in the same area more than 2 years to recoup closing costs if you do move)

p.s. Its just an option and my opinion. Have a good day.

All of the above sounds good and is what I'm planning on doing, with the exception that I'm unsure on #1. I'm thinking that buying a used G35 coupe will make me want to trade up for something newer soon. Maybe not, who knows.

The other issue with buying used is that it might be a pain to find what I'm looking for.

Mike, think you might be able to PM me a ballpark figure on that G? If not for that specific unit, I'm just trying to get an idea of how much I might be able to save by buying a 07 instead of an 08.

Thanks, all! Any other input would be appreciated!

PM sent. You're saving a pretty good amount vs a 08.

Thanks, Mike.

Too bad I'm over 3,000 miles away!

Okay, here's something else I'm wondering. If I buy a used G35 coupe, it'll likely not have much factory warranty if any on it. Should I consider a dealer warranty?

My current car I purchased just out of warranty, but it also cost half of what I'm looking at now.

Any thoughts here?

If you get an 05 it will have a factory warranty until 2009 (Granted it is under 60K miles). Hope that helps as I too am in a similar situation as yourself. However I opted to buy a condo first before my hunt for a G35. I'm now 24 and have 25% equity in my condo. I know it might not be BEST for you but I'd buy a house/condo before getting a G35. Closing cost/initial 20% isn't cheap. Also, the market is great right now. Good luck.

Yeah, I'm definitely planning on a condo or house in the next couple years while the market's down.

I fear that I'm going to get super bored living at home before I have the money to buy a house or condo. I figure a car payment beats the hell out of a rent payment.

*shrug*

On second thought your right. You finished up college. Why not treat yourself. Congrats on the degree mate. Fun part is searching for your G. Have you looked in Mass/CT?

I'm not decided on what I want yet to start serious searching. I've got an idea of how much things will cost, but I need to get my job squared away before I start looking hardcore.

I'm also not going to test drive until I'm ready to buy, because I know once I do, I won't be able to say no. :P

This probably isn't the best thread to be asking in. There are dozens of other threads asking the exact same question and it also varies with the dealer.
