New Member: Considering trading Mustang in on G35.

Hello all,

Last week i had some time to kill so i stopped in the local Infinity dealership set on test driving one of the 6-spd versions of the G35. After a few mins of talking to the salesguy, i got to take an fully loaded Athens Blue G35 for a spin. All i gotta say is i am in love!!

Now little background on myself. I'm 24 and own 2 Mustangs. One is a modifed '88 5.0 and the other is a daily driver 2004 GT.

Anyway i've decided it's time to try something new and considering selling the new GT for something fun and sporty and luxurious.

The car i drove was loaded with the aero package, premium package and navigation as well as the sport appearance package. If i was to purchase one, this would be exactly how i would want mine optioned out. WHat are you guys seeing as average prices for a loaded G35 like that? I've seen conflicting info which is why i am asking. The dealer didn't have a sticker on the 6-spd demo, but i saw a sticker on one of the floor models and it was about 40K, yet i read online about loaded 6MT's going for 33K.

1 thing i did not like was the shifter. It was way too rubbery and felt sloppy. Even with the shifter in gear, it felt like nuetral in my Mustang. DOes anyone make any aftermarket performance shifters for the G35? I'm looking to tighten up the shifter for a more solid feel.

WHat do these cars (6-spd) run the 1/4 mile? I may be tempted to hit the track a few times with it just to see what it could do. I got the chance to wind out 2nd and 3rd gear on the test drive and the car does have some decent power. It didn't feel as fast as my GT but that's not what i'm looking for here. Handling was awesome and braking was decent.

Does anyone make a performance brake kit for the G35?? If so, how much am i looking to spend for one of those?

The exhaust sounds great. Nissan/Infinity has the best non-V8 exhaust out there today. I always turn my head when i hear one drive by.

1 final though. The Bose stereo. I read that it is only 250watts?? I got the chance to roll the windows up and blast it and honestly i'm not that impressed with it. I'm not an aftermarket radio junkie either. I prefer factory equipment, but i was just disappointed. It lacked power. Then again, it could be that i'm used to the 1000watt factory Mach 1000 in my GT. WHat are your thoughts on the stereo??

ANyway thanks for your time. I'll be lurking in the meantime until i hopefully pick up a red w/graphite G35

Well I can help on a few things...I just finally sold my highly modded wrx tonight (YES FINALLY!!!!!!!) and will be waiting till I think the 19th to get my G...

You can get a base 6mt sport coupe for 33. I think the sticker for mine with everything but the FULL aero kit was like 38 something...but then again I'm not paying anywhere near that....gotta love the employee pricing through my pops....

for the brakes what I plan on doing is buying up a set of used brembo's from a Z owner going to something bigger and better....BUT before you dish out all that coin just try some better fluid, braided lines and better pads...that might give you the brake feel that you crave...

33K? Invoice price for a 6MT with the packages you listed would be a tad under 36K. Unless you qualify for a VPP deal or live in an area where dealers can give you a good deal, don't expect to pay under 37K. Go to edmunds.com and price it out and it will tell you what the market price is in your area.

There are short throw shifters for the G, but to me the the stock one is perfect..

I've seen times anywhere from high 13's to low 15's but the average is about mid 14's stock.

The BBK goes for 4.5-5K I believe.. depending on rotor size. Not sure if the stock wheels will clear it even with spacers.

Wait until you hear some aftermarket exhausts for the G, or get cats and headers

Yeah the Bose is pathetic even to the average ear.

Keep us posted on what you decide!

Yes, the Bose blows chunks- I'm going to totally replace the stereo system and it will run me at least $7000. You won't have to spend THAT much to upgrade the stereo!

I see, well i think I definitely need to get the aero package. I think it looks incredible on the car.

I want the Navigation, but the downside is I need to get the $2500 premium package as well. To be honest, the only thing want out of the premium package is the sunroof. The radio doesn't impress me but I think i will most likely need to get it. Oh well.

I'll wait til the '06's come out and see if i can get some deals on dealers trying to get rid of leftover '05's

37K was about what I was looking to spend. My GT is paid for, so i'll have a pretty sizable down payment on the car. I'm sure there will be room to negotiate.

Are you saying there are brake kits that are so large they won't fit the 19" Sport wheels??? I don't think i want that larger, i was just hoping to improve on asthetics since the brakes are so visable. Maybe some crossdrilled rotors and 350Z brembo brakes.

You're not going to find many people complaining about the G's shifter in regards to it feeling rubbery. It's very short and tight to me. The G is not going feel as fast as your Mustang with its massive torque, but high strung V6's require you to wring them out to get all the HP. However, the VQ has more torque than 99% of all NA V6 engines on the planet. I ran a couple of GTs with positive results although the GT is more mod-friendly.

Well, i'm not looking to compare a GT to a G35. They are both very different cars made to do different things. I am just interested in a car that had more than enough power to keep me from getting bored and let's just say i was not bored on the test drive! I am not concerned with what it will beat, it felt fast enough for what I want it to do. Very impressive for a V6.

The stats are 298HP and 260TQ correct? How heavy are these cars??

A little over 3500 for the '05 6MT. I was just letting you know that to get the G moving you have to wring it out to 7100 rpm in the '05's case, which you're not used to in you GT. Good luck.

Yeah i noticed redline was pretty high during my test drive. I also saw a light that said REV in the gauge setup. The salesman tried explaining it to me but he did a poor job. Somethng about adjustable rev limiter??

The V8 in my GT makes most of it's power in the upper RPM's so i have learned to rev out the gears to wring the most from the engine. Of course the main difference is redline is 5800. I'm sure i'll adapt quickly

I agree with your statement if you add the qualifier "in its price range." The Porsche Sports exhaust system on a 996 makes the G35 sound like a lawn mower. Now if I recall correctly, the optional exhaust system on my 996 cost around $1200, and the 996 cost me over $80K. So it ain't cheap.

I have an '03, so I don't get the rev light , but I think it prevents you from hitting the limiter at 7100 rpm by giving you a light signal. I could use it now since my pulley and flywheel makes 6700 rpm come pretty quickly.

If You Like The Current G35 Coupe Then Wait Till The 06 Comes Out...projectors, Blue Tooth, Memory Seats(both Driver And Passenger), Active 4 Wheel Steering, And Probably Other Goodies(revised Front And Rear Fascia Are The Rumors). Its Better Than The 04 To 05 Improvements(which Were Pretty Nice Too). Search On The Subject. Many Reports Confirming What I Said.

Projectors you can retrofit very easily and the bluetooth will cost you only $300 to install (someone just did it on their sedan). Stuff like new side skirts or front lip (because the non-aero kit model looks exactly the same) you can always add if you wish. I don't see how the 05 to 06 improvements are a bigger deal??
