I have been driving via a manual tranny for some 30 years. If I am not shifting, I would not feel that I was driving.

It's my only car. Driven it in Houston traffic and I'd damn well do it again. If you are getting a car like this, do yourself the favour and get the 6mt (no offense AT drivers). Even if you do get stuck in traffic, think of it as burning extra calories Originally Posted by brisk

Dont you just love it when that happens? People think its so hard to do it, but after a while, you learn what revs at a certain gear yields in MPH. Its grea to learn that about your car and be able to downshift from 6th cruising speed, to 3rd flooring speed.Originally Posted by htownboy
You can shift just as 'smooth' if you want to and I do when I'm cruising; i've had people ride in the car and never realise I was shifting until they actually see and they always comment... Just the other day I took a co-worker to lunch and after a few traffic lights she says "Wow, I never noticed you were shifting"

I regret it big time[driving in dc traffic]... If I knew that this car was gonna be this slow, I would have just opted for an auto... 298hp doesnt mean anything! unless its in a sti

Take it from me, the question should be "how long would the fun in a 5AT last?"Originally Posted by brisk

If you've ever owned a manual car, you would know that the longer you own it and the more you get to know it, the more fun it becomes.
I wish an SMG/DSG option was offered. It would be a nice compromise when I'm stuck in traffic (which is quite often unfortunately)....

my 6MT is my only car, and i drive tons of miles in rush hour traffic every day.
i learned to drive on a manual and had it for 9 yrs, went to an auto for one year, and couldnt wait to go back. on top of feeling more "in tune" with the car, i love the way our gear box feels. i dont care how many miles, how bad the traffic, no AT for me!
as my dad said the day i got my permit: "hell yeah you're gonna learn to shift today - you want to learn how to drive dont ya? i can teach a monkey to hold on a steer, thats not driving!"

It is my daily driver, in Atlanta. No regrets. Fun has lasted 24 months, so far.

Not true, FYI girls like stick better. And "not being able to hold her hand" is not an excuse, corny bs like that should be the last reason why you choose one transmission over the other.
