About to buy; a few Q's...
Hi all,
Good 'ole Uncle Samuel owes me a shinny penny and I am going down to my local candy store to spend it (2006 6MT Sedan). So I have a few questions for you seasoned g35 owners. I have done some searching through the forums and found some answers, but I would like to rehash a couple to get some fresh perspectives.
1. Costco buy. Anyone done it? How was the +invoice? Overall experience? Other thoughts?
2. Extended warrantee. Opinions? I've been saved by these things (VW Touareg), so I am going to stick with them. I also typically keep my cars 8+ years. Has anyone tried any of the non-infiniti warrentees, such as Warrentee Direct?
3. Special order experiences: After purusing the online inventories of a number of local dealerships, it looks like I will have to do a factory order. I am after a wheat interior. What are your experiences, tips, etc for these types of negotiations? How have they effected your bottom line? I read that orders can take 2 months. Is this inline with what you had to wait?
4. Any dealer recommendations in the SF Bay Area / Sacramento?
5. Any other tips, point or opinions?
Thanks all for you help!

#3 is the only one I'll touch on:
I also had to order my '05 IP/Stone 6MT back in mid-'05. It was pretty hassle free. When I asked one dealer what sort of deal they would give, his reply was "We take $1500 of MSRP of all ORDERED vehicles." I asked a closer dealer to offer the same, and instead they gave my $1750 off MSRP, without any back-and-forth negotiations. What this tells me is that you should be able to get $1700-$2000 off MSRP on an ordered '06 without any problems or lengthy negotiations. You might find another $500-800 savings if a day of negotiating at the dealership is worth it to you.
FWIW, I don't have a local dealership so I ended up buying online at Austin Infiniti. VERY good experience. I had no intention of buying online, only getting as much pre-sale BS done before I made the 3-hour trip. Turns out I avoided all the typical BS and had my order in. I like negotiating on new cars (bustin' *****), but the online process was so painless that I'd even consider it for a local purchase.

If you're getting a lot of money back for taxes, you may want to increase your exemptions so that you end up with more of your own money during the year instead of letting Uncle Sam keep it and build interest on it.
As for cars, for coupes it looks like people are getting around $500-$1000 over invoice now, so shoot for that. A G35 will have much fewer problems than the best VW, so an extended warranty may not be worth it. It is already 4yrs long from the factory. If you can negotiate a good deal on it, maybe go for it, or just keep that money and spend it 4 years down the road when you need to. You could also wait 3 years and see how the car is doing and decide to buy one then.

When I was contemplating a new G35, I submitted an online request for an '05 G35 6sp. I received a call from a dealer local to me.
He first said, "Okay, I'm going to give you the Costco price. Then, I'm going to give you the special internet price."
You guessed it. The "special" price was far lower than what Costco's price was.
To sum it up, I don't think it's the "best" price you can get. Yeah, it's lower than MSRP but with a little dealing (okay, A LOT), you can get a better price than what their special Costco pricing is.
Of course, if you're one of those types who isn't in to negotiating, then it's a decent price.
if youre going to own it for so long, and you're getting the extended warranty, wait and get an 07 - the production model will be shown in just 3 months. it will be a significantly better car and will benefit you more every day for over eight years........

He's awesome, low pressure and pretty friendly. The sales managers aren't so great there but if you know your facts (check edmunds.com) then you can usually eek out a good deal. I paid 300 over invoice for a car that wasn't on the lot back in early November...
First, thanks all who have posted!
GT-Ron: Thanks for the vote on the online purchase. How was the delivery done?
P: You're right, there needs to be some excemption changes that need to be made this year. There were a number of things that changed last year that has brought me this windfall. As for the warrentee, 4 years is pretty good and ~$2k will buy a fair number of repairs. How has your's been? In the shop much?
tekk: Do you have any word when it would actually be in production? I am guessing that if we see the proto in April, we wouldn't see the car until Dec at best. Unfortunately, this would just be too long for me. I am also thinking that the cost is going to rise fairly significantly for the car. Both BMW and Lexus are adding $5 to $10k to their cars and Nissan has already said that they are going to be building higher priced Maximas (see edmunds). ... Although, if I am wrong, it may be a good reason not to wait 8 years for my car
absolutg: I will go talk with Rob. Frontier has about the best selection of 6mts out. Thanks for the tip
