Your experiences with receving rims from the states

In this thread you will share your experiences about buying and receving rims from the states.

When you got them shipped how much did you pay for shipping, how much did you pay on duties and brokerage. What couriers did you use....

Also are there any good canadian online wheel places??

No problem. Just having some fun. Good luck with the responses. I think some of the guys here have used a Canadian company called bigwheelz- if I got the spelling right.

I Bought some factory wheels from Los angeles. The customs and duties on $500 U.S. was about $145 CAD. Shipping round-trip was about $320 CAD using fedex. Hope that helps. And I will never do it again lol ..

Me I allways ask USPS (united state postal services) and not UPS or Fedex when I order stuff from US ( But I never ordered wheels...)

Most of the package I received from USPS goes through custom/duties without any added cost. SOMETIMES they charge a 6$ can. fee + taxes on the insured value of the package.

ordered wheels and tires mounted and balanced from arizona.

couldn't ship usps because of the size, so i chose fedex because i hate ups.

asked them to "gift" the wheels to save on duties and brokerage, but my contact was away when they were shipped and they were sent full value

fedex called me looking for a credit card to charge the $900 in duties, taxes, and brokerage. i said "eek" and tried to convince them that the wheels were part of a sponsorship...even contacted customs, etc. they informed me that 'gifting' or even sponsoring was only good up to a value of $40...so i was SOL. in retrospect, i should have gotten them to de-value them, but then you take your chances if they are lost/damaged.

all in all, it only took a couple days once they were shipped for them to get here, and except for the surprise with customs, went very smoothly. i dealt with vividracing http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/ and they were very helpful. mounting and balancing cost $80, shipping cost $190, tires were $900 and the rims...well, they were a bit more all told, i still saved enough over canadian prices to make it worthwhile.

my wheels are Volk LE37T, gold, 19X9.5 and 19X10.5 with Nitto tires (245/35/19 and 275/35/19), +22 offset to clear the brembos and come flush with the fenders.

here is a pic:

your taxes would be 6% GST + whatever PST you pay + your carriers fees. most companies ship using UPS they have a .pdf on their website which tells you how much brokage fees they charge (depends on your item price)
I bought my rims+tires from tirerack. they shipped for $100 and i paid ~$300 taxes+fees to AB
