Stone Chips
Stone Chips
Ahhhhh, I hate it when they dig up the asphalt on the highway and all of a sudden, you're driving on gravel with trucks throwing rocks at you from the front. I know some people have put the 3M chip guard on the front edge of the hood/fenders, but what about the bumper? I'm surprised that the bumper cover is not strong enough for stone chips. I already have a few dings over my front bumper
That's why I hate washing my car, because everytime I find something!

Welcome to the "Chip of the Week" club.....
Try driving a TB or Black car and you'll really see some chips!!!!
Its a pain in the a$$. Many people have clear bra'd their entire front bumper.

I hear you, Stephen, on the chips....a real PITA, that's why I had it installed on all front surfaces including the front edge of the hood, bumper, and side mirrors. Some get the leading edge of the roof done too.
3M Trim-Line in Mississauge is where I go....they're excellent.

I have black and everytime I wash I cringe. I used some of this Touchup123 touch up paint. Previously I got the Infiniti touch up pen which basically made horrible blotches. The Touchup123 stuff is pretty easy to use and you can always wipe off and reapply if you mess up. Not quite as good results as they post on their website though, but better then having hundreds of little stone chips on the front of the car.

You can wax or seal right over the clear bra.

I notice too because we used to own two Toyotas, one was a white 1992 Camry LE and I never thought you could stone chip a bumper because it's plastic. That bumper on the Camry seemed like the entire plastic cover was white so there was no way one could chip it ... until we got the Sentra, then Maxima and now the G35, I started to realize that I was taking the Camry for granted. The paint is definitely soft on the Nissans. Oh well, I guess you save a buck here and there ...

The 3M coating is very clear and promises to not yellow or otherwise change.
The untreated/uncoated surfaces on the other hand will change over time depending of many factors.
As you say, Nissan's/Infiniti's paint is 'weak' and needs some special care. I'd strongly recommend clear at the front, and preferably sooner b4 the chips begin.
Colin.
